I actually get how people could be bored. I have been at times as well but I chalk it down to just not being that into single player games as I've gotten older.
Not me. Love em. Just not loving this. It's okay but I know already I won't be putting as many hours into this as I did Fallout 4 and No Man's Sky.. or Borderlands even.

Played for maybe an hour. Maybe it takes a little to get into, but i'm not wowed so far. I'll keep at it.

Well I've sorted out some uppity robots, fixed up the town's funeral plan, died multiple times trying to pick up a first aid kit or something, and am now about to put some deserters back in their place with my brand new friend. It took a bit to begin with, but I am starting to get into the game now.

I don't think it has much of a NMS aesthetic btw, and I've put hundreds of hours into that game.

so 4-5 hours in and its a pretty good game but far from amazing

Not loving the shooting mechanics atm and enemies seem to be able to take a beating before they die

That'll change.

That's because it's RPG mechanics where they have health bars and you need to spec into buffs to counter resistances.

yeah that is fine when you can slow down time but when there are multiple enemies it becomes difficult

ok so just realised i was using a level 1 hand gun

Now killing the robots in the power station with the electric power gun has made this a hell of a lot better

Played a bit over the weekend. Starting to get into it a lot more, starting to get into the story more. Walking around outside of Edgewater became a whole lot easier after finding a Plasma Rifle!

Just on the Groundbreaker now. Starting to feel a little Firefly-ey, excitable chick mechanic, priest/vicar, just need a bad-ass chick who can take down marauders/reavers at whim.

I agree with this. The more of play the more I am loving this game.

I am on the groundbreaker now as well

Had a good session on the weekend which was more fun that the previous few, although it involved me having to take out a whole world due to pissing everyone off.

It just doesn't feel open world enough for me I think. I'll keep playing it though.
I am kind of happy with that.

Open world has been overkilled lately

Would it even be considered an open world? I wouldn't have thought it was.
I certainly wouldn't. With all the comparisons people were making to Fallout I guess I was expecting it to be.

I much prefer open world if it's an rpg. I don't like being forced on the straight and narrow so to speak.

Art imitating life.

Ok I am not a long way into the game but I have to say, even though it seems to basically be fallout: space, it so far seems to do everything a hell of a lot better than fallout. It's so smooth, all the interactions and menus flow so much better and it lacks many of the infuriating aspects the Bethesda games had. Seriously good so far.
fair bit further into this now, about 80% through from what i gather. i stand by my assessment that its essentially fallout in space but having played a lot more at this point its a bit lacking.
its very good but, i cant quite put my finger on it, but its just not deep enough. it doesnt do anything new. feels very much like i have seen it all before. which is a shame because technically its a lot less clunky than fallout which is great but it needs some points of difference.
i couldnt care less about the story. bit disappointed after the great first impressions. could have been great. should have stayed in development another year tbh.

Could it be that it's not open world?

For me it's more like Fable in space than Fallout in space.

Not enough of the NPCs have useful dialogue which is my only complaint so far (after looking past how hard this game is trying to be woke af). I go to a new area and spend up to an hour walking around and talking to everyone hoping that someone might give me info to use as dirt on someone else or a sneaky tip on getting a quest done. After all that was common of New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. Now half the NPCs feel like a waste of time talking to, I don't care for their life story if it isn't necessary. The bulk of this game would have been made as an independent studio as Microsoft acquiring them was only recent so I still think there was limitations to their scope and would bet any future entries will be far grander.

Yeah this. Very much a stepping stone game.

Completely agree. If anything it felt like Fallout light. And if I'm going in for what is meant to be an improvement on Fallout, I want more. It doesn't have to be 400 hours long but you know what I mean. Little things like 3 weapon types. It just seems like a cut corner?
