was out during the game and just watched it not knowing the result.
Managed to finish the game in 1 hour, finger wearing out the fast forward button on the remote as the result became inevitable. and to think I almost jumped on a plane to go watch this insipid performance

It's been a long season.
The guys have nothing to play for and the kids are finding it tough to get themselves up week after week.
Against a frontrunning team like Carlton, the type of result we had today was always possible.
Remember, after round 8, we were the worst team since FItzroy. The biggest insult anyone could hurl at us.
Calls were being made by everyone that we needed special assistance just to make us competitive.
Well we have won 6 games this year. 6 more than most thought we would.
We have also seen that we have a coach that knows exactly the magnitude of the job ahead.
Results like today are always disheartening.
It hurts and it should.
But don't lose sight of how far we have come this season and what we have done to put the right measures in place.
89 point losses should never be acceptable and today was unacceptable.
But shit happens.
We had two debutantes and 200 games of experience out of the side this week.
Don't lose the faith guys and gals.
We're actually in a better place that when Wallace took us to 9th with a false dawn to wake to.

Thusty was playing pretty poorly lately sante and he wasn't much chop in the magoos again today.

How many goals were kicked on him today?

Personally i see Thursty as a negating defender. I couldnt give a stuff if he doesnt get a kick all day, so long as he shuts down an opposition key forward. Most people seem to rate our defenders on how well they attack, which to me is totally backwards in most cases.

Damien Hardwick should be sacked asap. He has failed to get the best out of the side in a do or dead game that if we had won, would have had us well, in the dead part of the ladder.
In reality, If i were a betting man would be putting up red figures on the fact that the majority of tigerheads completely understand the real deal. We have come from nowhere, actually given ourselves a faint shot at the 8 with a particular structure and now that we have won our 6 games, gotten some respect for the plan, we went back to experimenting with new candidates and structures. At the end of the day the draft and pre season require a test of the players we havent tested. Its the only way we can understand what we require to IMPROVE on list wise. FWIW both newbies although not setting the world on fire, didnt do to bad under the circumstances IMO. The irish kid in particular has something we can work with. The Goo just needs to get grips with the speed of the game.
Can i add that today it seemed we were under instructions to exercise a game plan to the letter. The game plan wasnt changed even though it was falling apart at the seams under the weight of mistakes....THEY WILL LEARN IT..when they do it will fall together. If you watch the game closely if we minimise the mistakes the plan will tear sides apart. Its not that far away its all about doing it again and again until we get rid of the mistakes and experience and more strength and endurance will play its role in that. The pleasing thing if you watch it closely is the fact that more often than not, its purely an execution thing and not an option taking thing. Like hand balls falling short or over the head etc etc, i put it down to a young side on the wane at the arse end of the season. It can be fixed, option taking cant. ;)

11 weeks ago we were a 0-9 team who the experts were tipping to go winless for the year. 11 weeks later we've won 6 games and shown some encouraging signs during that time that we're on the right track.

With thanks to Sam from Croydon

what i find unbelievable is people having a go at a first gamer.
im in perth and i havent seen the game but people act shocked we copped a belting.
this is typical rfc people overrating the list.

and finally weather good or poor the kids are not the problem. we firstly have to play them we secondly have to give them time and thirdly in time we assess them.we have no choice but to correctly go thru this process. i will say it again down back the structure should go along the lines of thusfield moore post and gourdis, with deledio to give run and skill and another who can deal with smalls and be accountable.

where was the leadership today you lot know the blokes who are supposed to be the core.

we cannot and will not dramatically improve with so many glass half full types.

the core people not the kids anyone who thinks kids will come in to a team and dominate are fools. anyone who thinks kids are going to shine in a thrashing are deluded.

theres only one group to blame and most of them have been in our system for awhile now.

I thought Gourdis was actually very good down back. In the first half, he was really, really good. Clean skills, good size about him and was working well defensively. You can't really blame any of the backline with the amount of I50's the Blues had. Also, the amount of times their forward line was open and a mid was running through the middle to about 60 out and hitting a target was unbelieveable. The mids are accountable IMO, we got smashed in the midfield and had no class when going I50, JUST BOMB IT LONG, which hurt us on the rebound..

I don't give a rats about losing today and that's the honest truth, It was expected. What hurts is that we didn't apply any pressure to a second-rate team filled with first round picks borne out of cheating and tanking. And those picks, honestly, are absolute gutless outside receivers. If it wasn't for Judd and that monkami from Tassie, they'd have no-one to burrow for the ball.

I wanted improvement on first round. I watched a worse performance.

That aside, and I mentioned it in another post, leave Gourdis, Post and O'Reilly in the team. They had a crack and I really think if Post gets his confidence, will be exciting to watch snatching grabs in the forward line.

Right. That's it. Cheers:)

At least with Gourdis he isn't a stick insect impersonating a KPD. Astbury too, has a real good frame to build on. That's why it's such a shame Rance has those few defecincies (poor judge of ball in flight, can't contest with a forward 1 on 1, etc) that holds him back. He has a very big body and a couple of other decent attributes, something we have lacked for some time up back.

Post is still adjusting to his new size.
He has grown from a boy to a man almost overnight. Today, especially in the last quarter, we saw glimpses of what he might be.
I have faith this kid will turn out OK.

Today was awesome because it will give us a whole off-season to focus on round 1 next year (providing we are playing carlton). It was another game where we needed to be shown where we are at, especially when playing so many inexperienced players. Both Gourdis and O'reilly showed enough for me to leave them in the next 2 weeks. Post showed some glimpses as well which is all i expect from a young KPP.

I think our worst defender today was kelvin moore and has been for quite a number of weeks now. His inability to mark his opponent closely is killing us and i expect better from a moore experienced player.

....Anyone who thinks jack is out of form is mistaken, he is just not get any assistance from his team mates.

ummm our worst defender didnt have more than 20 games experience, in his fellow KPDs to help him fool. Do you watch the game? ;)

I did and i don't expect my most experienced KPD to get beaten time and time again because he is 10-20m off his direct opponent.

so why would you think our most experienced defender would be 10-20 m off his direct opponent dude? Could it be that the plan was that way but the plan came unstuck due to errors down the field? Dont know what you were watching but one of the very few who didnt **** up when it came to polish was Kel and he was ****ing the loan experienced head in a BL littered with newbies FFS so he had to be everywhere and sacrificed himself. ;)

Thats because its called a zone defense, and not man on man footy. At this stage we arnt good enough to employ it, but he wants us to learn the structure. I would bet next years phase 2 of the game plan will fill in those blanks.

Moore made A LOT of errors today, when not under immediate pressure. Having said that, was his worst game for the year, and he was certainly not alone. He has had a pretty good year overall. But I wouldn't miss him, if it meant Gourdis and/or Astbury were given a go at permanent residency as KPDs.

I seriously doubt that the footy dept intend on winning more than one more game this year.

Other than his poor man marking, my second biggest issue with moore is his kamikaze 3rd man up spoiling in marking contests that most likely would've been successfully defended anyways. This often leads to the ball get crumbed by his direct opponent or his direct opponent receiving the ball and easily getting a goal. A good example was garletts goal in the first quarter.

Same Tugga, Happy with what I saw from Posty, he's a kid who is lacking in confidence and I think today will have helped him see that he can compete at this level. Found space, almost clunked mark of the season, generally provided a good forward target. Will only get better with more exposure to senior footy. Like Jack, was hurt by some truly woeful forward 50 entries, these guys arn't rovers, don't kick it at their feet, or just expect them to win it at ground level. Kick to their advantage side of the contest and let them use their obvious strength, contested marking.
Without being to critical because his year (after the Sydney mishap) has been a tick for me, Dan Connors today had 26 disposals (equal highest) at 58% efficiency, that will not cut it, especially when delivering into forward 50 with many of his possessions. Think about the fact that almost half of his disposals resulted in turnovers. Dan has the natural ability to be elite with his disposal. He may be in need of a week to re-focus (and yes before I'm shot down I know there are only two weeks left!). Complacency and lazy disposal needs to be addressed.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: Usually i spit it but whilst i was dissapinted, there is a light at the end of the tunnell, and pick 6 is good!!!!!!!

People on this board should not berate 1st year players. How can they perform if their more senior colleagues are not? It's hard enough as it is making the step up from VFL, but it is nigh impossible when your more experienced mates don't rally around you.....
The players are clearly tired from chasing tails all year. Give Posty, the Goo, Hicksy and O' Reilly the last couple of games to get a some more game time and we'll reload for next year!

Go Tiges!

To be thrashed like that by a middle of the road team is pathetic though and deserves criticism.

The players look like they want the season to be over because the hunger is gone.

We've seen Gourdis, now bring back Thursfield or we'll lose by 120+ next weekend.

You don't think our midfield was the reason for the 89 point loss?

you Richmnd supporters should take some chill pills. We had to come out and make a statement, and really you guys are in a better place than frucken Essendon! Really the difference should have been 6-9 goals, but you lot ran out of energy in the last quarter, which is due to a young, still not fit team a pre-season will help.

Your coach has done a really good job giving guys like Tuck who you all wrote off a role, and building some sense of resposibility with your 100+ players, if he can get get Tambling to be useful each week will be bonus, and you have the best young forward in Reiwoldt who will be better than his poncy cousin.

All you need is a decent rukman and to build skills in you backline, maybe trade for a rebound defender, you can have Houlihan or Thornton from us, Hardwick will give them decent roles, in fact you guys should get Fisher to support Reiwolt up forward.

You should be happy that your young side rolled all the interstate teams, even frucken Sydney, and nearly beat Hawthorn. That demonstrates building competitiveness, you have to be able to beat a 'meh' sort of team before you take on the guns and start pushing for te 8. You got some exciting kids who are building belief, they do not have the baggage of the past and just wanna play footy.

To win 6 games minus Richo and Brown and a few other of the supposed 'champions' you had is no mean feat, next year you have a fit list with Foley and Polo returning to bolster midfield and assist in defensive rebound will make you more than competitve, and at least be able to smash Essendon.

Finally you should not let Cousins go. Even if he can't play, offer him a role as a midfield coach, like Essendon did with Camporele. Don't let Carro Wilson talk crap, Cousins is 100% more credible than bloody Campo who just chased $$$ and cheap kicks. People bag cousins becuase of his party problems, but turn a blind eye to the guys from the Footy Show who do worse. Cousins has responded with intergrity and passion and really has taught your youngsters more than a lying used-car salesman that was Wallace in how to play on-field. It just shows you hw the conservative forces try to reward mediocrity with their backward, judgemental way. Cousins deserves to stay, and will repay your side 100-fold for the chance you gave him. He was your best player today, even with a bung leg, he has alot to offer a young side learning how to succeed.

I have to say this game was right up there with one of our worst for the season. We seriously looked like witches hats at times. I cannot believe how easily we just rolled over and died in the second quarter.

It's really been frustrating how we've beend smashed by every melbourne club bar hawthorn.
