Over half the competition is from Victoria because it started in Victoria? Chas Brownlow was again Victorian? What do you propose we call it? The GF being played in other venues I actually agree with. Start by rotating it every other year between Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
Add the ridiculous rules of F/S and the bias of this towards the vfl over the last 10 years

If only that were true...the badges say afl, but the contracts still say vfl

Location of GF...
Over half the comp is from..
Brownlow medal naming comes from...

Until these change it won't be a true afl

Oh please the MCG is the home of football
What's the benefit of the brownlow being held in another state ? Melbourne is the epicenter of the league. I doubt WA/SA clubs would want to travel to Sydney/QLD for a piss up session.

That will never change - the entire media and entertainment industry in this country is centred around Sydney and Melbourne...and they don't give a shit about the AFL in Sydney.

Perth and Adelaide are an after thought - no matter the subject matter.
Big Bad Basil Zempilas is a WA boy, garlic muncher from way back. With Brad (Lyon to Collingwood)Hardie and Kane (the fireman) Cornes adding some colour.

Brian Taylor = West Aussie
Luke Darcy = South Aussie
Bruce McAvaney = South Aussie
Matthew Richardson = TASMANIAN!

I think we'll be alright as long as nobody starts hiring bloody Queenslanders.

My point exactly...it's still a vic competition not an Afl
Mate, it's going a bit far, some things you can't really change, and you can't just create new clubs interstate willy nilly. Interstate clubs are strong, and will remain that way. Adelaide and WC are power houses.

Brian Taylor and Luke Darcy are as Victorian as trams and pronouncing words with a sounds where e sounds should be these days.

The initial statement was this was now a national comp. Clearly it's not.

The fact that you are talking about the location of the Brownlow says it all...it's not about WHERE the night is held, it's the naming. The Brownlow would be the VFL medal (state league) and there would be a new medal for the AFL...maybe we can call it the Goodes medal after a dual league b&f, premership player, 300 games

With only 2 Melbourne based clubs making the finals in Richmond and Essendon, (7th) (Geelong and the AFL don't consider themselves Melbourne based) is that cause for concern for the AFL and or welfare/sustainability of Melbourne based clubs?

Surely seasons like this with so many interstate sides making the finals it has to hit the hip pocket and crowd attendances at the mcg etc? Or do crowds go up with interstate finalists making it?

Just some food for thought, especially as I'm an advocate for merging a few Melbourne based teams for long term sustainability and financial independence of all clubs as I don't believe there's a market for so many Melbourne based teams in a national comp, as well as having the benefit of stronger comp after it being weakened with the expansion teams breaking the back of the talent pool so to speak.
Partially agree with this.
You could merge a couple and probably relocate that entity
But I think those days are gone

Partially disagree
48k to a dead rubber on Friday night. One team a small supporter base, the other with lower crowds than normal.
3 of the bottom 5 are non-Melbourne clubs despite half the comp being Melbourne based
I think Melbourne footy is fine
i think most clubs are on good tracks at the moment

Agree they should merge a couple of vic clubs then start a new team in tas (not a relocation). Red and green colours, called the devils or something like that.

Then give them 8 of the first 10 draft picks for their first 2 years, plus signing the best 10 17year olds to trade out, additional salary cap and ability to sign uncontracted players from other clubs

We had rules we signed up to the comp with that were changed to exclude us just before a couple of kids matured to father / son eligibility.
It was like a phone contract where the fine print says the provider can change the rules at any time or not have a phone (and thus BF)...what ya gonna do
