Just been to see this film. Absolutely stunned at the portrayal of the end of christs life. I don't know why really, i am not overly religious and always have tried to keep an open mind. However seeing the betrayal and treatment christ received was shocking.

Mel Gibson apparantly invested a lot in this film, and if tonights session is any example, nearly a full house, he will do well.I think though making a few bob wasn't his aim.

The acting was superb, the flashbacks stunning, the portrayal of satan thought provoking and Mary was brilliant.
I suppose the best thing to come from Passion is the discussion it will generate. For me though the portrayal of Jesus has deeply moved me.

I look forward to other views...

Gibson funded the entire movie. Normally someone would pay for the actually production ie the final making of the actual film bits that get distributed, then someone usually pays for the distribution. Both make loads of money. In Mels case no company would do it so he had to produce, package and distribute it all himself.

It is reported that Mel poured between 30 and 40 million of his own cash into the project - in the face of ridicule and advice from his contacts in Hollywood.

I say good on him - he had the means to do something that he was passionate about, and he did it. I will go and see it, and like dreampolice, I expect the movie to move me.

People who banter on about how they won't see the movie because they don't believe in God should also take the same stand with other movies. They should not see LOTR if they don't believe in Hobbits.

I think everyone expected the movie to cause a bit of a stir - and I think it will to, but a stir in a direction no one anticipated.

HEY! I DO believe in hobbits which is why I saw LOTR :)

Very minor point, but the film is entitled The Passion of the Christ.

I'm not expecting the movie to overly change my world, but I look forward to it.

I will view it merely as Mel Gibson's interpretation of the gospels, rather than as gospel, if you know what I mean.

From what I have heard, it is riddled with mistakes and oversights.

It's a movie, no more, no less.

I'm definitely going to catch it. Looking forward to it big time

From what I've heard, it'd have to be one of the oddest films ever made- you'd obviously expect it to seriously draw the Christian crowds in, but given how violent it is supposed to be, it will probably draw a lot of the younger, 'MA movies rock' slasher watchers. A uni mate of mine, whose favorite movies to date are thel, Friday the 13th series (sigh) was raving on about how he couldn't wait to see it and it looked really good- interested to see what he makes of a 'spiritual splatter movie'.

By the same token some of my relatives are fairly full on Baptists of the Ned, Rod and Todd variety, and wouldn't have seen an MA movie in their life. I'm going to be interested to see what they make of a movie chock full of gore, sadistic behavior, cat'o'nine tails, Crows picking out someones eye, and obviously a very nasty and full on crucifixion scene.

There is a sad rarety of truly original and different high budget films- If its everything people say it is, then good on Mel- he's taken a huge risk and created a film which doesn't really fit a genre or have one strict target audience, and on that basis alone its probably worth seeing- I have no idea what it will be like, but I'm pretty certain it won't be an 'ordinary' hollywood film.

Not really in to violence and gore and the plot is hardly one to excite

I have never been as underwhelmed about a movie since Jurassic Park of the English Patient. Won't see it.

Now Troy on the other hand..............

I guess its the same reasoning as that when religious people talk about their god as 'the god' as in 'the one and only god' therefore its the one and only christ. If that makes any sense.

Im fairly religious but not too full on. Im looking forward to the movie.

I'd suggest the 'passion' part actually refers more to the biblical storyline than the common utilsation of the word in a emotional and/or sexual sense - i.e. 'The Passion Play' depicted all around the world pre-easter every year, the story of the last days of Christ.

I haven't seen it yet, I haven't even made up my mind if I am going to see it. But I think it takes balls of steel to make a movie as provactive and contreversial as this one has been billed.

An absolutely fantastic film! It gets back to the basic, Jesus came and paid the price for us. Deeply moving and brilliantly produced!

You must see it, really impressive!

Regarding the violence, i enjoyed kill bill1 but always when watching films of this ilk you know - it didn't really happen-
With Passion the fact that this happened and has been shown so graphically is the reason this film is so hard to swallow.

Brilliant film, incredibly moving and confronting...I think Mels main intention must have been to challenge the audience, as in well Christ went through this for us, what have you done in return type thing. It also challenges the romantic image of jesus on the cross which is presented to us these days. This movie graphically shows just how bloody and violent the sacrifice was...these days that image is either overlooked or glossed over when it comes to the crucifixion.

It is really, really violent though. Not for the faint hearted...someone in America supposedly died from a heart attack during the movie. Amazing that it got an MA rating only.

I gave it 20 billion of out 10, one of the most moving, emotional, and honest movies I have ever seen. Not ashamed to say I wept openly on 3 seperate occasions during the movie, and also heard others (I think) doing the same.
Mel Gibson should be very proud of his work here, it takes guts and courage to show exactly what happened to Jesus Christ during the last 12 agonising hour of his extrodinary life, especially in the society and world we live in now.
Was anyone else freaked out by the Satan character, especially when he was holding the little demon/baby thing and at the end when he was ranting and cursing in what looked like a "hell" type of place after Jesus' death? Quite scary.
The movie was bloody, violent, shocking and, yet, it all happened, it is all true. A profound and very real experience that I will never forget. I think it is hard for modern generations to read and imagine the pain and degredation Crusifixion visited upon the body, and funnily enough Easter cartoons aren't really big on the whipping and shoulder dislocating! The Passion needed to be as graphic as it was, to really show what happened, and what an unbelievable sacrifice Jesus made for His people.
I will probably see it again, and be just as moved, hey, its not like I didn't already know the ending!

I've heard that churches in the US are booking out whole cinema's at a time to take parishioners off to see it. It made $20 million in it's first 24 hours and according to Boxofficemojo.com it's up to about $64 million after three days. So even if Mel isn't worried about making money off it, he has by now.

Yeah. I thought the Satan character was one of the most evil things I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot.

How can you claim that this is exactly what happened? I think you need a reality check.

LOTR is fiction/fantasy and the makers don't dispute that, whereas the makers of this film are trying to pass this off as fact.

I don't believe in God but went to go see what all the fuss was about and found it more boring that The Last Temptation of Christ.

There's no proof that this happened yet alone how violent the sacrifice was. Seems you are too eager to take something at face value because you would like to believe it.
