I'd like to hear from anyone who's seen the movie, about which characters they think look jewish.

Certainly Jesus doesn't appear to, but what about the desciples, Mary or the high priests and the mob?

Let's not go bringing religion into this - it's got nothing to do with a movie about Chirst....

Its funny how people seem to take whatever is served up to them in these 'historical' themed films as gospel (excuse the pun) While I believe that the incidents in which Gibson's film is based did actually occur its pretty ridiculous to say "Thats exactly how it happened" or words to that effect. The film, however good it may be, is simply his interpretation of events.

This is one aspect of films that really annoys me, its just like how everyone was an expert on the Scots after Braveheart- despite the blatant discrepancy between the facts and what appeared on screen.

I can't see why there's such a fuss about the movie version of some fiction novel, and from what I've heard a pretty long winded boring novel at that. Was there protests and such when Star Wars or LOTR was made into a movie, no and at least their story was more believable, and everyone knew who the author was.

Everyone get over it and let it get put on the back shelves of the video store where it belongs with the copies of Michael Jacksons last concert.

Do you want to know if the look like current day Jewish people, or native Jews of the day. If the latter, what are you basing your comparison on?

not sure if i liked it or hated it at the moment - i thought it was powerful at times, and boring at others (sloooooow motion). it was certainly well made though.

Not only is the Bible the greatest story ever written, it's probably the first soap opera ever made. It's got everything - lies, deceit, betrayal and a resurrection!

The Passion of the Christ pales in comparison. It is extremely well made, but its fatal flaw is that it is simply not a drama.

There's no need to make it that complicated. Some people look clearly Jewish. The guy who played Jesus doesn't.

Which Jewish characters in the film would you assume were Jewish if you met them?

Stop kidding yourself, it is everything about religion. But in saying that, I didn't mention anything about religion - someone tried to say that the movie was absolute fact and I merely pointed out that it's impossible to be sure of the facts.

Guess I should have put the sarcastic face after my post then.

Probably that we shouldn't be taking things quite so seriously. There are plenty of people dying around the world for this sort of thing already, and everybody has an opnion. Doesn't make it any more right or wrong than yours.

Yes it does. I'm right, he's wrong. Feel free to dispute this with evidence.

I didn't say it wasn't correct - I said that there is no proof that the movie has depicted it truthfully, or whether or not it even happened. Any person who claims it as absolute truth deserves to be singled out an idiot.

Nah BB, you're just making out that the whole issue is more heated than it actually is. You carry on like you're the first person to ever notice that religious people make these big sweeping statements as if they were definitely true; statements which their non-fellow travellers don't buy into at all. Now the rest of us are accostomed to this and feel no need to turn every thread into a jihad just because some religious person makes a religious-style statement, (and on a thread with a clearly religious topic.) It's better to be exposed to other peoples' viewpoints (even if you're sure that they're BS,) rather than be safely coccooned within your own. And not just so you can jump on people you disagree with.

Good point Zeke - maybe I should have said I still go to Church on Sunday. It reminds me of that saying "Christianity has not been a failure its just that in has never been tried"

I have always been a bit suspect of the reactionary part of the Church and its sado masochistic obsession with the sufferings of Christ in the passion. The agony he suffered was not contextualised by this movie - all it was was a shopping list of the torture that He endured in the last twelve hours of His life. For a movie about the Passion of "The Christ"it was not mystical or all that spiritual for that matter.
Mark,

Here's a review of the movie from a BDSM devotee. See what you think:

This certainly wasn't an enjoyable or entertaining film.
But it certainly was a powerful one.
Remembering though, the physical pain that Jesus went through would not have even come close to the spiritual pain He would have suffered being separated from His Father (for all those that believe of course).

Great film.

I didn't think much of it.

What did it bring to the story that wasn't already there? I didn't get any insight into any of the characters' motivations or personalities, Jesus came across as one-dimensional, the music sounded almost identical to Peter Gabriel's in Last Temptation... so what was the big deal? Nicely, but the blood and gore carried on for far too long, coulid have cut this out and focussed on some other aspects of the story.

A very shallow film given the subject matter.

Sbagman.
