Changing it will foster resentment too.Jan 26 may be a significant day but it was also a date which has significance to indigenous people as a lot of atrocities occurred on that day. Don't see why we can't change the date. Banning the celebrations altogether is a little bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

It can hose down for the rest of the day for all I care. Nothing's going to wipe this smile off my face.![]()
Couldn't care less.Could miss out on first pick
Especially WA fireworks lel
Why even bother.. If you've ever been to the east coast or overseas, you realise how pathetic Perth puts on a show lmao
Not really. The Poms just landed in Sydney. They didn't storm the shore with guns blazing like the opening of Saving Private Ryan.Jan 26 may be a significant day but it was also a date which has significance to indigenous people as a lot of atrocities occurred on that day.
Let's just never celebrate anything ever. No public holidays, no christmas, easter, or anything.Does there need to be a "day" at all
Well that's what Australia is heading towards.Let's just never celebrate anything ever. No public holidays, no christmas, easter, or anything.

Yep, let's not set aside a day to be proud of our country
I'm not much of a patriot and tbh rarely do anything on Australia Day of any note but not having a "day" would be next level self loathing as a nation
I agree. I support changing the date. I do NOT support banning it all together.Suits me and talk about being self entitled - Could quite easily remove crap like Labour day and Queens birthday. Whenever the discussion comes up around no footy on Good Friday the large majority don't even recognise it for its significance only that it's a day off, so we can get rid of that and Easter Monday as well.
First Australians are asking for recognition that it's not a "great" day for all Australians and want it moved to another day that everyone can embrace - you would think we were asking for the world the way some carry on.
If it's a day that you want to celebrate being "proud" of your country, does it really matter what date it is. At least that is a day that everyone can embrace and celebrate
What I find interesting is that the British invaded NZ as much as they did Australia but because they prepared a treaty in 1840 it makes it all better.
