Any indentured labourer had it tough. Not really relevant to 2018 though if they aren't a disadvantaged group today.

The US is 10-15% African American, Australia about 2-3% Indigenous.

One of my mates at school got the nickname Wog because he was from an Italian family but this was around the time of Wogs Out of Work where Italians and Greeks were calling themselves wogs and it wasn't really seen as a racist insult anymore, it was kind of like calling English people Poms.

Australia is talked up as a multicultural country but we only accept other cultures after moving on to being racist to another culture.

Wogs only got accepted here after we moved on to being racist to Asians and they only got accepted here after we moved on to being racist to Muslims.

We're running out of cultures to be racist to.

Africans.

But there seems to be some overlap, because we're still being racist to Muslims.

Was at the Jim Jefferies show last night. **** the crowd was terrible, constant bogan heckling and a fight in the back two rows halting the show.

No wonder we have drinking rules and regulations. So many aggressive ******s.
I saw that Jefferies was in town on one of those snapchat location stories. I didn't know he was coming and probably wouldn't have gone even if I did but he's a good comedian. It sucks that the crowd was ******.

At least we made it though that MMA event without violence.

My family are both Croatian and Italian.

We are always calling each other Dings, Dagos and Wogs.

We're not offended.
As previously mentioned I did say the term was commonly used and okay to be used amongst wogs.

As also previously mentioned I responded to a question about dings and wogs and that it is in fact a racist term and when the Italians, Greeks and other Europeans first arrived it was for the most part always used in a derogatory manner. Some second generations no doubt don’t find it as offensive and that’s due to Nick Giannopoulos and Joe Avati showing the funny side of growing up in a European household to Australian audiences - again they were the ones taking the piss out of themselves. I don’t think it would of gone down as well if some Aussie bloke tried to take the piss out of them

I’m pleased that you weren’t offended by it at school and continue not to be offended by it.

I follow West Perth.

We were given the nickname "Garlic Munchers" due to the high percentage of our supporters being ethnic.

I'm sure back in the day it was meant to be offensive but we took it and made it our own.

We don't really have the African gang problem that Melbourne has though, there's no Apex gang here unless you count Nic Naitanui as a gang.

We did have an Asian gang problem but I never saw them apart from when I was at Curtin uni where they formed gangs at lectures and libraries studying.

Nic Naitanui is the apex predator.

Not sure of the point you’re now trying to make Freofalcon - think I already covered that. My husband is also a West Perth supporter so I’m well aware of the term but I don’t think it gets used as much these days but then again I don’t follow the WAFL
I guess my point is, is that words are just that.

Words.

People can try and flip off a derogatory term in relation to my families background but at the end of the day, a word isn't going to cause me any discomfort.

And that’s great but just for a bit of context my husbands father was interred in Harvey along with a great many others during the war, even though up until that point they had been hard working and gainfully employed in the community. I’m sure you can imagine that the return to the community once that period ended wasn’t the happy ending that we would all like to think. Again as previously mentioned why I referred the racism comments mainly happened to the first generation migrants.

Yes times are different now and the words are just water off a ducks back but I’m sure there will be others in here that will remember the fights that used to occur between wogs and skips on a weekly basis around the northlands area in the 70’s and 80’s.

Anyway the topic annoys some and bores others so I’m happy to leave it with all is good in the wogs world and that’s great

To be honest, I was posting from something I read five pages ago.

I have no idea what your thoughts were.

I used to get called a Wog at school.

It never bothered me.

I just sat down and ate my Continental Roll full of all the good stuff whilst the Skippys ate their Vegemite sandwiches and I'd feel sorry for them.[/n]

It was Ok to call soccer wog-ball,but if you went around calling Italians/Slavs wogs you'd most likely get a punch in the head.

Dude, that is so me. I went to school at CBC Freo and was the token skippy(there was a couple of others but we were hugely in the minority). Was never a prob, ironically.

I often had to munch on a vegemite sanga for recess or lunch. If I was lucky, cheese and lettuce would be on offer!

Meanwhile, the dings were livin it large with all kinds of exotic shit!

After I graduated, I came to appreciate the Euro styles of grubbery. Good times. :thumbsu:
