Part 4 is here:

interesting info in WA parliament yesterday:

Data from the Australian Taxation Office shows that 318 507 people in WA were receiving JobKeeper payments in August 2020. There is a footnote saying that JobKeeper payment data by location is based on where an organisation is registered with the ATO and may not reflect where the organisation trades or where its employees are based. The member would be familiar with that.
That means that around 24 per cent of employed people in WA were receiving JobKeeper payments in August, compared with almost 29 per cent nationally

The number of people receiving JobSeeker payments in WA totalled 166 990 as at 2 October—we have more updated figures for JobSeeker than we do for JobKeeper—which is a fall of eight per cent from its peak of 181 348 people in May. The eight per cent fall for JobSeeker in WA between May and early October is the largest fall of all jurisdictions, with reductions across all jurisdictions except, unsurprisingly, Victoria over that period. An 86 per cent increase in WA during the COVID-19 period was less than the 101 per cent increase at the national level. In August 2020, which is the latest common data point, 492 250 people in WA were receiving either JobKeeper or JobSeeker.

That is around 34 per cent of the labour force, which is the lowest share of all the states, and below 39 per cent nationally. I make the point that that is in August. A bit has happened since August, but it gives the member that context.

it will be frightening to see the economy try and ween it's way off this teet

the outcome will be currency devaluation against assets and effectively giving every worker a pay cut. Long term this had to happen due to globalisation but it will be interesting to see how the west copes with this, under democracy. Perhaps this man made down turn, under the guise of COVID, is a blessing.

A business owner friend of mine recently commented "it's really cheap to run a business when you don't have to pay staff"

They will want the wheels turning again before pulling that plug. I went for a walk around Lakeside with the pram and the place is very quiet around the boutique stores.

"Currency devaluation against assets" - does that just mean an increase in the value of assets? Because, yes, that would likely be the result of further stimulus.

Also, why would every worker effectively get a pay cut? There's not much inflation now to eat away at spending power and it's not likely to rear its head soon.

Its the capitalists fantasy
Legal slave trade
Privatise the profits socialise the losses

I never said it wasn't the will of the people. I just said it was stupid and parochial.

I reckon the most likely person with their fingers and toes crossed in the hopes that the High Court rules with Palmer is McGowan himself. If the borders are forced open it takes all the pressure off him to have any sort of a plan himself.

They get forced open and anything happens he can just blame Palmer and the High Court and his approval will spike again.

Without High Court intervention there's no way McGowan can carry this for another 5 odd months.

I have family interstate but we've accepted the new reality. Around this time of year I'd be booking my holiday to Melbourne to see him but we have phones, we have the internet and other endless ways to either distract ourselves or engage with the people we care about.

You can still get exemptions easily enough to visit them if you need to care for them or if they're dying.

Edit - Jimmy beat me to the last point.

You don't need an exemption to leave WA to go to another state for any reason, you need an exemption to get back into WA when your business is done.

The exemptions to return, even for WA residents are very hard to come by, there is also the 14 days isolation / quarantine you have to do if they let you back in.

Often the people that you hear from are only telling you their side of the story or simply a story that isn't completely factual.

Other times people would rather complain on facebook than gather supporting documents for their "essential" travel.

You really don't have a clue.

You sure about this, I'm about to pick up my daughter from the airport after a trip to Canberra via Adelaide and returning via Sydney, no exemption required, she does however have to isolate at home for 14 days.

He isn't. Jimmy even quoted the exact requirements straight from the website which HHH ignored.

Actually, she's texting from the airport now, the police are interviewing everyone coming off the plane, she does have an exemption, but those that don't are being carted off somewhere else.

So I was right then?

You said the exemptions to return are very hard to come by but that poster gave a clear example of someone being able to easily re-enter WA with an exemption.

And yet those opposing the hard border are accusing those 'jerking off' McGowan as playing politics...

jimmy, I gave an example of a pregnant woman with no family support in WA, who ended up with major surgery to remove an organ midway through the pregnancy, that was advised by the surgeons she may lose the child during the operation, triggering anxiety and depression (increasing the risk of post natal depression), despite being `55kg prior to the pegnancy she lost 8kg due to the "organ" issue.........on top of that she had a pelvic ( symphysis pubis dysfunction) meaning she couldn't walk without acute pain and advised not to walk at all.

She submitted her application with all medical records (obstetrician, psychologist, GP, surgeon) along with every supporting information requested as per G2G. Her application was rejected requesting 3 items. After investigation by lawyers provided to assist her, the shortfall was:
1) A copy of the drivers licence - note the portal requested a drivers licence number not a request for the drivers licence. SO WHY NOT F"N ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT?
2) A copy of a floor plan of the house of isolation - G2G wanted to know if the house had a bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen - WHAT F'N HOUSE IN AUSTRALIA DOES NOT HAVE A BEDROOM, BATHROOM OR A KITCHEN?

3) A LETTER OF SUPPORT - the lawyers asked G2G what letter of support they require (from the pregnant woman supporting the application, the family supporting the pregnant woman or a doctor supporting the application) - THE ANSWER.......WE DON'T KNOW

G2G also explained they are under resourced and have no possible way of interrogating their own database, as to who made the request for a letter of support or what was meant by the letter of support.

The woman ended up having an anxiety attack, in fear of having a baby without family support and still not being able to fully walk. One specific anxiety attack, resulted in the onset of child birth 1 month premature.

Higher levels on WA government were made away of this, outside of protocols, and the result was an immediate approval of the submission.

Why does it take an event like this for the WA government to approve a request for travel...............when the ban is unconstitutional?
Why have any laws in Western Australia if our government doesn't respect the law of the land?
Why doesn't G2G know what they are asking for?
Why can you come into WA to play footy, work in iron ore (without quarantine) but not a situation like this?
Why can the family member be picked up in a car by anyone, but then have to spend two weeks in quarantine? Can you not catch Covid in a car?
Why does it take "mates" to talk at higher levels to get approvals? Is this not the definition of corruption?

You should take this to the media. Real media. Posting it on BigFooty only gets the attention of Robbo and Caro. If the situation is as described, it would be highly embarrassing for the government.

But then again, just like your hinting-not-hinting about Scott Ludlam doing some dodgy things which you never elaborated on, I'm inclined to believe this is all made up.

No, he firstly said she was returning without an exemption and you were all over it, saying I had ignored what was posted and the link that was put up and I didn't know what I was on about. He then clarified and said she did have an exemption.

Believe me, as one of the 1,000s affected by this, I'm acutely aware of what is going on and what the rules are. I'm actually heading back to Vic once this swing is finished in less than 2 weeks and I'll just stay home and wait it out then.

"The exemptions to return, even for WA residents, are very hard to come by"

Your exact words. The website which you claim to visit regularly lists several exemptions to allow you into WA.

The media are now all over the two fb pages that I'm on, Interstate FIFO Familes affected by COVID-19 and G2G Pass - WA. In particular the G2G pass one, they're very interested in WA residents that haven't been able to get back in. Today Tonight, A Current Affair, FinReview, Sky News, Ben Fordham, multiple ABC outlets, producers and reporters coming in asking people for their stories and to go on air with them.

For all the people that have been knocked back multiple times or have been given an exemption only for them to be told it's been revoked when they drive to the border, it seems the best thing to do is just hop and a plane and fly into Perth and just deal with it at the airport.

Yep, I visit regularly and those exemptions for states and territories other than Victoria have remained virtually unchanged since July.

It's not as easy as you seem to think it is. When was the last time you applied for an exemption to enter WA?

I'm pro taking this to the ABC but I have to be mindful, "mates" relationship was leant on.

My gut feel is proceeding with a circular to libs, labs, clive and the ABC, even if it burns some relationships.

edit: just emailed Harvey and McGowan this morning. Their responses will determine next steps

oh and Ludlam was discussed in detail but not the name of the company who taped him

Looking forward to getting my wish and seeing BHP taking on more apprentices - it can only be a good thing and if they keep good on that promise then massive kudos to Them

Two year apprenticeships. Will be on less money when they're done. Current apprentices doing traditional 4 years are over the moon, not. Will spend the whole 2 years in Perth before being let loose on a site where they will be buddied up.
