Part of me wishes we actually got 10, 20 cases in a hurry then nipped it in the bud. These short lockdowns for 1 or 0 cases then a week or two of masks that people don't wear properly and 2m social distancing rules that no one follows just irritate people.

The Victorian example - and this current NSW one which is still stubbornly having 20 cases a day almost a week into lockdown - shows that dithering until you hit double digits runs the real risk of an extended lockdown. Given how contagious delta is (which everyone reasonable-minded in the scientific community agrees on), you just cannot take chances with this if you still want to persist with COVID eradication.

There is one thing that can stop lockdowns in the future without filling up hospitals and obituary columns though...

I'm not saying wait until there are 20 cases a day until you do anything. I'm saying that if you are going to lockdown over 1 case and 0 community transmission, and that lockdown leads to 0 cases then every time people are going to take it less and less seriously. If this latest lockdown actually saw 5, 10, 20 cases and we got on top of it because of the lockdown then people would get behind the short term pain, long term gain thing. We will eventually get bitten in the arse.

Does anyone really think the reason we haven't had 20, 50, 100+ cases in the last week is due to a Perth and Peel lockdown? No, we got lucky. Again. The person wandering around Mindarie with the delta strain could've infected a whole bunch of people before anyone knew about it it.

Has Delta being more contagious actually been factually verified or is it just media jumping on and inducing fear pr0n.

Even if it is more contagious that is usually a good sign as it means it is less deadly (spreads to more hosts but doesn't kill them to enhance the speed of spread).

Info is coming from the World Health Organization it's more contagious

She already infected three others without knowing about it, and this was after she had a dose of the AZ vaccine. We don't know for sure yet if she or those other cases have passed it on either.

Do you really think that we would've been fine with the Sunday-level restrictions (ie just masks and no large events) if she was allowed to wander around unimpeded? There is a reason why even lockdown-averse NSW bit the bullet and even now are regretting not doing it sooner - this thing gets away from you rapidly. From what I can tell apart from the usual moaners, everyone has been compliant. It hasn't yet reached political unpopularity - it might when a majority of us get fully vaccinated, but we're still only at 4%.

She didn't even infect her husband. Why is no one dying of covid in Australia? It can't be the treatment available (there is none) It can't be the vaccine (sheep bleat that there's not enough vaccinated) Masks? Bahahaha your mask with flowers on it couldn't stop a flu germ with a hangover.

The new world order has begun!!!! Wake up sheeeeple!!!!

Why do we have to wait and wait and wait to find out what restrictions there will be come Saturday?

Would it really be that hard for McClown to tell us that x cases will mean y restrictions etc?

Businesses have weekends to prepare for.

Apparently 20,000 cases a day of the Delta strain in Indonesia.
Medical system imploding .
Bali considering banning surfing 😲

I wonder if the emperor will allow regional travel up north if lockdown ends midnight tonight considering its school holiday and more importantly Ive got a fishing trip lined up.

Hasn’t it normally been reported by now
Is this delay a good thing or bad news
Or is he delaying as long as possible to make sure no cases before the school holiday exodus

Delaying as long as possible if any new cases pop up.

He doesn't want to declare we are COVID free in the morning with no new cases and say we are easing restrictions only for some more cases to pop and he has put them back in place.

Look a few people dying in the waiting room is just a sign of an appropriately resourced hospital system working to capacity.
The buck stops at the top mate the health system is a mess thats why they’re shit scared and lock down immediately over one case, anyway hearing another case over night in the same gym.
