And of course, Coventry Village was jam packed and it's difficult to see how they solve the constant car park and traffic issues for that place. I now park closer to the Galleria and the former Morley Markets and walk across the road if I must visit during peak times.

Neither the Premier, nor Opposition leader, could remember the details of the date. Zempilas thought it was the day Helena Dance cut down a tree to mark the beginning of the colony but got the date wrong, Cook knew it wasn't that but also got the month of the tree cutting down wrong. June 1 was the day Stirling proclaimed the Swan River Colony from a boat after striking a reef. Frankly, not sure it's history important enough to warrant a date.I thought Easter Saturday was already a public holiday. Used to get more for working it in retail.
Happy to have more public holidays but seems like a lot of unnecessary moving parts. Just needed to create a new one in November and be done with it.
What happens to Foundation Day derby? Foundation Day became WA Day and now WA Day is in November. Way to acknowledge history.
Don't you say that! It irritates me. I've punched people in the mouth for saying that. You can have Katter Day in November.

The whole point of changing the name from Foundation Day to WA Day was because a proclamation to claim the land for the UK was hardly indicative of our overall history in the first pace.
They are both idiots. Do they not have staff? Smartphones? Wikipedia? Not sure someone not remembering something is cause to change it. People think all sorts of historical inaccuracies about 26th January before you even get into objections over it.
It's really just appeasing the unappeasable. Change the name, then change the date... the history hasn't changed.
If the powers that be wanted to be more inclusive and have a Spring public holiday they could've done something around Kambarang rather than move King's Birthday to June (the current king is actually born in November not that it really matters) and create a new date for WA Day out of thin air.
Or......... keep all the usual suspects but you can have back King's Birthday and WA Day (neither of which anyone really cares about) and we get a day off for each Noongar season - which aren't tied to specific dates so can always be Mondays and Fridays? Good deal.
It was an off-the-cuff question, not delivered in advance. And neither knew, not because they are idiots but because I think 99 out of 100 West Australians wouldn’t even know the name Helena Dance, let alone the story of the tree and date. I doubt the majority know the connection between WA Day and James Stirling any more. It was distanced from the event with the name change 12 years ago, by a Liberal government. Now it will be distanced more so by a date change from a Labor government. I don’t think there’s a culture war to be had here. No one was demanding it be changed in the same way as January 26.They are both idiots. Do they not have staff? Smartphones? Wikipedia? The story of James Stirling is but one small part of WA’s story, we recognise it wasn’t the beginning of a society in this state. A random date is as good as any at this point.
So to save any confusion would a simpler title for the day be perhapsTo add to that, another ship, The Challenger commanded by Charles Fremantle, arrived in WA in late April and claimed the "Western Coast of New Holland" for the British Crown on May the 2nd. The Parmelia didn't arrive off the coast near Garden Island until 31 May and then struck a reef as you say near Carnac Island on the same day. Some accounts say that Stirling then officially proclaimed the establishment of the Swan River Colony while they were still stuck on the boat (on June 1) while others say he didn't officially proclaim the Colony until the 18th of June, so the dates are all over the place.
Isnt that what its collequially called anyways? So to save any confusion would a simpler title for the day be perhaps
“ F**k the Boss and Get On the Piss Day “?
I don't understand who shops at Myer. Literally not a single reason for me to go in one. Can’t see Myer closing - one of the staff was saying that it’s one of the busiest stores and given how hard it is to park at karrinyup and city, I’m not surprised
So you aren’t in the market for handbags and perfume?I don't understand who shops at Myer. Literally not a single reason for me to go in one.
