Stuff like this makes me sad :(
http://www.smh.com.au/wa-news/towtr...jured-on-kwinana-freeway-20150215-13f33i.html

I don't like the poor bloke's chances.
Why did they move him from Fiona Stanley- which is only a few kms away- and take him to RPH if he's listed as 'critical'? I thought everything there was state of the art?

Freeway was still closed at 9am- looked like the cops were about to open it up, though.

Surely he had his cones set up and light flashing - how can anyone not see him working. I'm overly cautious in situations where I can see someone on the side of the road - I either switch lanes or slow down. I hope he makes it and I feel for the person that struck him

The person that hit him was probably drunk

I'm pretty sure ED is still at royal perth.
ED opened at FS on Feb 3rd, IRRC. Might be a specialist dept which is better at RPH, perhaps? Neurology or spinal care, perhaps?

I would think that yes, he's followed procedure with all those warning signs up - but who knows?
If you're trundling along at 100kph, you probably wouldn't notice warning lights, etc. as they'd be masked by the brake lights of the tow truck. The accident was very close to where the Berrigan Dr traffic merges, too.

There's nothing to indicate that the driver of the car didn't stop or was drunk or anything. My first reaction was that it was a hit and run but have re-read the article and it just says the cops want to talk to anyone who saw that car.
I wouldn't even recognise the colour of a car at 2am!!

It has only just opened a couple of weeks and RPH is probably more set up for that kind of trauma.

the state trauma unit is still at Royal Perth Hospital, as are the surgeons who get allocated to cases like this.

That would make sense- thanks guys!
That would beg the question then- why waste time going to FSH, then, if RPH was better set up to take this critical case?
Unless perhaps he was stabilised at FSH, in preference to losing him in the back of an ambulance on the direct route to RPH?

I moved here

I have no idea of the numbers that will see the puppets but from the news reports a lot of people have gone into the city to see them although I'll agree that 500k seems a stretch. But even if its 200k then the governments contribution of $3m is still pretty good value for money - they've spent a lot more in the past for worse results so viewed in isolation I think this has been money well spent.

If you want to frame the spending in a wider context of a history of money being spent in Perth and not in the regions then there is no doubt that problem still exists despite royalties for regions and theres any number of projects in Perth that illustrate that point well. What you should be taking from this is that money can be spent wisely on something that will succeed which only serves to highlight to wasteful spending that occurs elsewhere

The numbers over Friday and Saturday add up to at least 580k.

The ambulance officers are just there to get people to the nearest ED.

Choppers just went out- another fire in Hammond Park- near the freeway again, this time down near Rowley Rd. Freeway affected in both directions.

Who wants to come with me and give this/these firebug/s a good whacking when they finally get caught??

I was sort of half joking, but well it has happened before..
Just from memory, it's a cluster of fires from Russell Rd in Hammond Park down to Baldivis/Wellard/Leda (?) all close to the freeway. About 5-6 ignitions now, roughly a week apart.
So far it's only smoked a few people out- and forced evacuations- but what if someone gets hurt?
This/these idiots need to be stopped - and soon!!
You're right about the possibility of it being a firefighter but no more so than if you'd said it was a male or a young kid between, say, the ages of 15-25. (Just guessing there)
There are all types of above average representations of firebug profiles in the communities. I'm always shocked to hear that it's a firefighter, considering the danger that these people are put through every time they go out to fight a fire. Hopefully it isn't a firefighter. Whoever it is, they're a flaming loony - and they need to be locked up!!

Yeah but when you think about it that's probably what firebugs might get their kicks from and being so close to and involved in what they caused themselves it makes sense they might take up the job.

Was at the puppets today.
We had a fairly poor vantage point but the brief period of time that the Giants were close to us was impressive. It's quite mesmerizing really.

Was also funny seeing the disorganisation as the event crew and police tried to clear a path down riverside drive for the marching band. I thought the horses were gonna go crazy.

That's true but I prefer to think that firefighters are altruistic- hence my great disappointment to find that there are some who are of a different type altogether.

I guess it comes from my upbringing- when I was a kid, I idolised my Dad's cousin, who was the Captain of the local CFA for over 30 years as well as manager of the local St John's Ambulance. His son has followed in his footsteps and both have been awarded recognition by the state for their service over many years. To me, that's what all firefighters are like.
