In Freo: Where 50 year old guys with 1990s style long hair and long hair done into ponytails is soooo in.
I thought that was Northbridge.

I've heard that the zapfhall in freo is pretty good as is Brotzeit in William street although more expensive
Zapfhall does a great pork knuckle, and the $10 beers are on par with similar joints on the easy coast (and much better value than $9.50 Carlton Draughts).

I think the beer range and menu is too short though. Not as good overall as say Lowenbrau and Bavarian Beer Cafe.

Brotzeit is $14-$15 for a pint

i cry evrytiem

I've heard that it's actually the rents in Perth that are the problems not the venues and the prices they charge but even that struggles to justify those prices

Hasn't it always been more expensive to go out and drink over here even before the boom?

Yes.

I thought the reason was because we don't allow pokies, so pubs and clubs actually have to make their money on beer. In some places over east beer and cheap food are the loss leader to get people in through the door and towards the pokie machines.

If that's the case Admiral Byng, do you know if the drinks at the crown are reasonably priced

Last time I was at the Casino (probably 2 years ago now) they were pretty much the same price as a normal pub.

Don't know. I haven't been in the casino even once in the last decade or more.

I've been but I'm not a drinker and why I asked

So while admiral's post maybe correct, crown while reeling in the millions are still content with charging the earth for drinks. I think there meals are quite reasonably priced

Well, they don't have to lure the punters in with cheap drinks, they're the only venue in Perth allowed gaming machines, so they can use that in it's own right. It's one of those things that doesn't necesarily work in reverse.

They are most certainly not. Prices are standard $9-12 for beers. And meals are also expensive, a far cry from the pokie venues in Sydney where meals are $10 cheaper. Must be more to it.

More likely as Admiral Byng suggests, since the cas has a monopoly they don't need to cut prices to get people coming in

As long as we continue to patronise these venues and their exorbitant prices then I suppose we just have to suck it up

I prefer paying exorbitant amounts at our casino in exchange for not having pokies everywhere.

Sounds about right. Apparently the Eagles (not the football variety) on Wednesday night charged about that too for nosebleed tickets at the Perth Arena.
Worth every cent. They were fantastic.
