With the maximum tax rate of 49%, you have a different definition of most to me.

And the 49% is only applied to the amount over the next highest income threshold, too, so in reality the amount taken is far less than 49%.

It reminds me of how so many people do not understand our progressive tax system.

My mum told me its not worth her getting a 2nd job (she works 3 days a week) because u get taxed too much on the 2nd job.

She is sort of correct in that you can only claim the tax-free threshold on one job.

Still, money is money, the government doesn't take even half of it. And come tax return time, chances are she'll get a large portion of it back.

I thought I heard on the radio this morning that Victoria will now get grand final Eve and they were pushing for Easter Tuesday.
At the moment though I think we are on a par

I obviously need a new accountant - I work three days a week at one place and 1 at another. The extra day seems to be killing me and the only reason I didn't pay the tax man is because I get extra tax taken.

But you are correct in that I havent a clue as to how tax etc. works

Basically on the 2nd job ur tax is taken out at the highest rate but then u get whatever u are owed back in ur tax return. The only difference between having 1 or 2 jobs for the same pay/hours is u lose a bit in ur pocket each week but get it back with ur tax return.

My mum isnt exactly living hand to mouth so the weekly pay isnt an issue, she legit thought she wasnt going to lose most of it to tax due to these myths being perpetuated.

Even though our tax system is staggeringly and unnecessarily complicated, it's worrying that people think they will end up paying the marginal tax rate or more of their entire income in tax.

The only surprises I ever got from the tax man were to do with HECS as if you don't know what your final income for a given year will be you don't know for sure what bracket you'll be in and it isn't progressive. Glad that is cleared now before Tone makes degrees $100k @ 5% p.a.

NSW has 2 more. We should steal their Bank Holiday in August (wtf? It's probably a day off so the banks can count all of their cash!!) to even things up a bit ;)
Bank Holiday isnt a real holiday, its only for banks. What is the other holiday? If im not mistaken, WA actually has 1 more than NSW which is Labour Day.

Also, this year we get Anzac Day but they dont.

Black hawks have been flying right over my house all arvo, and still going into the night. Pretty awesome.

ah- my bad.
Both states have Labour Day and Queen's birthday- just at different times of the year. WA has WA Day (previously called "Foundation Day") in June, near the time when everyone else has the Queen's b/day, so that's why we have Queen's birthday in late Sept- near where some states have their Labour Day (Oct). our Labour Day is in early March.
the first site I looked at listed Easter Saturday as a NSW Public holiday, whereas it isn't in WA- that's where the extra holiday came from, I think. And I did count that bank holiday (which I thought was pretty much a PH for all)
