This makes me a bit cross:

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/26557776/perth-airport-fears-night-curfew/

Some developer has applied for rezoning the old Rosehill Golf COurse so they can build 800 homes there. Only problem is it's right near the airport and underneath the flight-path for the main runway.

I can't believe this proposal is even being given serious consideration. Even why it was proposed in the first place. If it goes ahead you can just bet the new residents will complain like bitches to restrict the operations of the airport. It's the only international airport for a thousand miles, and it's a vital strategic asset for Perth and WA, socially and economically. No, you can't build that close to the airport and then complain about the noise later. Please can we just say no to this application?
It would be stupid to build there in the first place. There are already areas that are under the flight path which aren't close to the airport which are bad enough. Hopefully they do the right thing and reject it.

It's the same when people move into apartments or housing near a bar/pub/club/music venue and then proceed to complain. It's moronic.

Reminds me of a story about Centre Ford in Northbridge. It's obviously been around for decades, but they revamped the surrounding area around it a few years ago including putting up some apartments close to where the service centre is around the side. As you can guess the new tenants complained about the noise so early in the morning and even went so far as to egg the cars sitting in the yard which ruined the paint on a few of them.

They tried to take it to court and complain and luckily sanity prevailed and they lost. I think a few of them got minor charges for damaging the cars with the eggs as well.

Only in Perth???

Nope, the complaining happens everywhere and the flight path issue has been an ongoing battle in Canberra for the past decade or more. If interested google "tralee" which sits under the Canberra airport flight path just inside NSW.
I was thinking about the Jandakot airport and the complaints here. :) Particularly those who've recently moved and are the worst complainers!

Probably not, but I thought this was the appropriate thread for this particular case.

I guess in other places they've probably already built the suburbs and impose the curfews and other restrictions on the airports. It's a problem we still have time enough to avoid.

I don't understand why people who are going past Cockburn Central on the train get on the ones that end at Cockburn. Today I can understand since none of the electronic boards on the platforms were working so you had no idea how far the train was going or how long until the next one, but every other day people get on and then get off and wait for the next train. Wouldn't it be easier to just get on one that goes straight through?

True
If we had curfews imposed here- say 11pm-6am, that would mean a huge pile of flights all waiting to leave at 6am (particularly thinking of the FIFO people here), which would impact on things like short term parking, drive through areas, etc. Also, much as I really hate them, the red-eye flights do offer a cheap alternative to regular flights and they arrive in Melb in time for an early start for businessmen (and people like me who don't like wasting a single day by having to spend it on a plane).

No doubt the government will only see the $$$ in front of their eyes and will continue to approve housing areas under direct flight paths. Just as they have approved a huge high-density housing development on the so-called 'protected' Jandakot water mound. Pfft! Absolutely NO foresight whatsoever.

Ten years ago a couple moved into apartments above a bar and restaurant in the old brewery building, complained, about the noise, took owners to court and the bar restaurant had to close at 7pm from then on every night. NIMBYs can GAGF.

Good riddance. They were bang at the centre of a great ford deal.

What is the point of a bar/restaurant that closes at 7pm? That's dinner time.

I was listening to this discussion on talkback this morning and a woman called talking about some development out in the vines area and she said that it wasn't until after they had bought and built did they realise that it was directly under a flight path and they from 5.30am onwards get a plane every 6 minutes. For mine, while it is caveat emptor I strongly believe that the developer and selling agents need to be bought to account for this sort of subterfuge. The Rosehill development should have to clearly state in BIG LETTERS that it sits beneath a busy flight path on every contract and brochure.

The concern for mine though were the number of people ringing who are saying that 10 or more years ago when they bought they were not on a flight path and they now are. Salter point and the coastline between Cottesloe and Joondalup - IMO this does need to be addressed.

I also heard the suggestion that new airports should be built out at Northam  as in cities like london the airports are over an hour away so why not here.

Curfews are not the answer - developers, councils and the airport governing bodies need to sit down and nut stuff out

I guess it depends on your luck with the flight paths, I lived at my uncle's place for a while a few years ago in High Wycombe and despite their place being very close to the airport it surprising was only the occasional plane that flew right over the top that was really extra noticeable.
