How can anyone complain about the cold in Perth? There's places in the world that would gladly swap our winter for their summer. Look at today! It's bloody beautiful. Chuck on a light cardy and STFU.

We just like complaining about the weather in general, in a few months when summer starts up again there will be mass bitching after the first consecutive 35+ degree days. My theory is that our significant Brit population's influence has now permeated through our social fabric causing us to become miserable whingers too.

I don't like the current weather too much but for a different reason, I love the rain and wish we'd have a bit more of it in winter. Don't think it's particularly cold.

I don't mind the rain, but I don't think Perth is designed to handle the type of rainfall we have. My house certainly isn't. So often when it rains the streets are covered in a couple of inches of water, drains are flooded etc. within minutes. I guess our weather patterns have changed and we get more heavy downpours than we used to, but I don't think Perth is designed particularly well for summer or winter. Houses these days (when energy efficiency should be better) seem to just be designed on the basis of 'just build what you want and put in a big enough air conditioner to keep the temperature at 20ish degrees all year round'. I have a house with this revolutionary piece of design called eves, and am currently upgrading my old West facing windows (which are timber and will no longer open) to energy efficient glass. Sea breeze on a summer evening is beautiful. I'm a bit pressed for space but when I re-do the guttering and put in more downpipes I'd also like to put in a rainwater tank too.

Also rain in Perth turns everyone into complete numpties. Sensible people drive a bit slower when it is raining to allow for a greater stopping distance. Perth people drive inconsistently between 10 and 100 km/h and lose all limited understanding of road awareness they have as soon as the wipers go on. I hate driving in the rain purely for not wanting to be on the road at the same time other wet weather drivers.

Anyone hear Barnett on ABC Radio this morning defending his decision to axe financial counselling for places such as Anglicare? Geoff Hutchison then said "Maybe you need financial counselling" which got Barney all blustered. I thought it was quite witty and hilarious to be fair.

Guess you had to be there...yeah so anyway, this weather!

I popped to the shops this afternoon about 4pm and thought I was going to get a farmer's tan by rolling down the window.

Was still 20+ degrees at 5pm. Five hours of sunshine without the temperature dropping below 20 degrees. Two weeks out from the winter solstice.

Perth FTW.
Yeah left work at 10 o'clock and it was beautiful. Like a summers night :thumbsu:

Wouldn't go that far. I left the gym just before 9 and it was still definitely winter.
Maybe because I was in a fridge most of the night at work it made it feel warm when I went outside. Didn't think about that at the time.

Opinions on the new pedestrian bridge to the stadium?

Not sure if that's confirmed or still up for debate but I have to say I like it. Most of the time with these sorts of projects anything is better then a flat featureless addition. Whether it's liked or hated initially at least it adds some character, particularly for people visiting the city.

Anyway for me its :thumbsu::thumbsu: for a ribbon walkway across the swan.

And people say Perth is stuck in the past...

This is how we used to do bridges:

Krispy Kreme opens in Myaree!

But srs cat, it's the winter solstice.
I worked on that thing in March/April, looked like it was close when I left. Seems like a ridiculous amount of time was spent fitting out the store.
