Got bored last night after the footy so I decided to go into Freo for a beer at around 9pm.
Walked into Bennys, Newport, Sail and Anchor and the Norfolk.
I could not believe how dead the place was.
I didn't even have a beer it was that quiet.
So all up I spent $20 getting there, and $20 getting back home in taxi fares for a walk down the Cappuccino Strip.
They really need to do something to Freo, because it is dying very quickly as a tourist and social place to go.

Yeh it was going off in the arvo / early evening but lots of ppl prob just cbf going out on a freezing night

Yep, from experience, was not able to get any job at any of those places.

Unless you have previous experience and good references, which is very hard for many 15-16 year olds to have, then it's very hard.

People who knew the right people literally got jobs a day after applying for them.

Surely getting those things is why it makes sense to take something in a less convenient area?

As a proud armadalian who stacked shelves through high school without getting stabbed very often I'm trying to get my head around the idea of there being a armadale clique, but maybe I was a part of it without knowing.

If you don't have contacts, getting your first few entry level jobs is as simple as this.

1. fix any obvious deal breakers about your appearance, personality or cv which can be readily spotted in 5 minutes. If you don't know ask someone old whose opinion you trust what they think of you.

2. Put your name down absolutely everywhere, be pleasant and enthusiastic when you talk to them, make it clear you're not fussy about hours or shifts. Big retail and fast food will always go through hiring phases every few months because they aren't great jobs and people tend to move on after a while. Sooner or later they will pull your name out of the hat. You can't control this process but you can increase your chance by applying everywhere possible.

3. Continue the above process for as long as it takes. Take whatever job you can get for the reference and the experience, and if it really sucks keep applying elsewhere.

If you're thick skinned, patient and not a complete nutjar, you will get casual work via this process.

I posted a couple of days ago saying I was moving to Perth for week around the end of the year most likely. Subiaco has been spoken about, what other suburbs would you guys recommend? Looking for close to CBD, close to beach (not a deal breaker), decent nightlife (bars, restaurants ect.), anywhere similar to St. Kilda or Prahran areas?

Mt lawley, west Leederville, Shenton park to meet all your criteria except both are still about 10km from the beach and of course Subiaco

Sorry that was my fault. I started up with some I hate Perth rant and everyone got sidetracked.

Claremont.
  • Close to the CBD
  • Bars and restaurants
  • Closer to the beach
Think it ticks all the boxes.

Check out Dawesville. Paradise.

Yeah as others have said I think Mount Lawley, Leederville or Subi are your best bets. Probably in the order.

Leederville is closer to the beach (by about 5 minutes drive) and probably best for criteria but Mt Lawley is great too. Other areas not already mentioned, that might be worth looking at are East Perth, North Perth, South Perth, East Vic Park and Mt Hawthorn. All have varying degrees of what you are looking for.

Why is it so cold

(In b4 Some dick says winter)
Something to do with the distance of the sun from the earth, I believe... ;)

Or maybe it's because there is a high in the bight and over SW Aust. Cold nights are the price we pay for the lovely sunny days of winter. I'm OK with it because the alternative is Melbourne weather....

The earths is tilted 23.5 degrees on its axis. This means at this time of the year the southern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun and the suns rays are spread over a larger distance so are not as intense as in the summer months. This combined with clear mornings that allows whatever heat there is to escape means the mornings are as cold as ****!!

Thank goodness we aren't living in Antarctica at this time of year, hey? ;)
