LOL self-serving. It's a ******* telethon which raises millions for a childrens hospital.
Now I don't believe true altruism exists, and I have no issue with personal benefit if there's other benefits – ala cross-promotion but helping out a cause almost everyone can get behind. However, you're totally delusional if you think it comes from their kind heartedness. It's all about getting their flogs on the screen, with some shocking actor from Sydney coming over to further their image, with Channel 7 dropping in references to every show they have, and for the big companies to get some great PR and come across as soulful.

Which, considering the way BHP et al have displaced Aboriginal communities and would rip down every beach and national park if there was money in it, it's about as piss poor as McDonalds sponsoring kids soccer. It's all a nice excuse to offload the bad press they should and probably would otherwise get.

Apparently those houses are made out of plywood too. It's like that Simpsons episode where they fix Ned's house...

You do realise it's not exactly uncommon to build a 2 storey house with using plywood for the 2nd floor as a cheaper option than another slab? Shitloads of them are made like that.

Silent Alarm, I'd rather BHP get their name in lights and Johnny Ruffo & Carbo from Packed to the Rafters (no idea what his real name is) get 5 more minutes of game with the net result being $25m going to PMH than not.
Of course, the benefit is much better than not having the spud collective on the tele, but if this thing cost Channel 7 money and was of no benefit to them, they wouldn't have it

If Australia was a horse Perth would have to be where it shits, that aside there are some excellent places to go both South and North providing you stay reasonably close to the coast.

Removing the ignorant part of this post, there is actually a valid point.

Perth is a wonderful place for families that can afford it, unfortunately its ranking in terms of livability would drop dramatically if you only looked at the bottom 50% in terms of family income.

I know most places would see a drop, but I'd argue not as severe as Perth which main draw card is the coast and the lifestyle that brings. The further east people are pushed, the more likely they are to deal with sweltering temperatures with little respite and time spent in cars.

My point being that Perth is far from the worst place in Australia, which is what the poster I responded to was implying.

South Hedland is a more than acceptable basis for comparison, it's awful.

I took it that the poster was referring to capital cities.

I was born in Port Hedland.

Perth & WA is the best place i have been to & worked in. it hasn't really had the influence from the knobs from the more populated cities of Sydney

But but the only reason people voted against daylight savings was because of fading curtains and the cows!

According to the proponents of DST (who are generally young students or live right on the cost) it's the reason
Unbelievable. However, I have to admit that I voted against it but it had nothing to do with fading curtains or cows.
