Who are you with at home? Some have free top ups.
The phone tops up with 1GB for $10 but the kids were blowing that every second day :(
We're with iinet- which, appropriately, autocorrected to 'inept' just now :D

They're not too bad, actually. We can't get ADSL2+ though, so are on the shittest speed. We're 4 kms from the exchange so top speed, though, should be 8Mbps, is only 4. Last night I was on the phone to them as the speed was 0.10Mbps. We have a 150/150 peak/off peak plan.

Tell the stupid kids to stop streaming a shit load of stuff then.
Not sure what the kids are doing at home but one of my daughters had updated her phone to iOS9, which had wifi assist turned on... Her internet had gone bung last week after Western Power had turned the power off to repair something and left the internet not working properly, so her phone just zipped over to 4G whenever the wifi was bad- and she didn't realise. She'd used her 3GB cap in 2 weeks, along with my 3GB plus some of her siblings'. The problem was that our internet at home had also been crap so one of her brothers and her sister had also used up their cap in 2 weeks... Grrr!

Yeah, they got caught with the autoplay on facebook videos as well.
The moment you figure out how to stop shit like that, stupid Apple/YouTube invents some other shit.

I still haven't worked out how to stop autoplay on YouTube on my computer - just have to turn it off after I finish watching something. I do turn it off but the next time I get a Safari page up, it reverts back. Just haven't been bothered too much by it to warrant spending the time to look it up.

FB: Settings -> Videos -> Auto Play Off.

Don't use safari so can't help there, although I manage to kill the ****ing Abode Flash Player update spam so none of it auto opens for me unless I allow it to run out of date atm.

might be because lots of places are booked out and you only get in if you book really early. (like 12 months early ;)
It's in a park. But right in the middle of a Saturday so the time is inconvenient to say the least

The company has a large boardroom and balcony. Have drinks there on a Friday afternoon and get it catered. It's not ****ing rocket science

The place I work at has a serious staff retention problem. Part of that is there's no reason for people to want to stay or that people find it hard to leave because they don't want to leave friends

First job I worked at had a really vibrant social club and that helped form strong friendships (hell I met my wife there). People liked working there and were happy to stay

I'm not interested in the Melbourne cup but yesterday they did zilch - not even say to staff who were you're welcome to go up to the boardroom and watch the race on the TV

Yeah, the kids turned theirs off- I don't use FB so mine's just on YouTube. Thanks anyway.
:)
I still have some shit autoupdate from 2012 that says it hasn't loaded or installed but I've installed it 3+ times already so I just ignore it now. (only repeatedly did it 'cos I thought it must not have worked. Now I just think it's stuffed.)

I'm surprised you are getting anything at all with all the cutbacks going on. My daughter works for a govt agency and it's been amusing over the years watching it go from lunch at the Burswood to a buffet at an inner city restaurant

Turns out we have to pay. Most don't mind, but management is picking the location, activities etc. so it will probably be a bit shit.

A rebel Christmas has been planned.

Maybe the company needs someone like you, who knows how these things work, to take charge and start up something. Start small, then it will grow. Speak to the boss - or your supervisor or something - and tell them you're willing to organise it.

A lot of the problems nowadays boils down to HR and litigation. Unfortunately, until we get away from the American way of blaming everyone but ourselves, the fun things in life will continue to dwindle.... :(

Pity about the Melb Cup- I don't watch it either but I know a lot of people who are very very keen, though this is the only race they watch for the whole year.

It's like move along people nothing to see here
I remember a few years ago that a young lady survived a minor incident on the Kwinana Freeway (?) but then was hit by a passing car after she'd just phoned her father to come and pick her up. People need to watch what is going on in front of them and not what everyone else is doing!

I remember a slow moving car running in to the ambos because they were looking at a crash they hit the side of the Ambulance

We have a very autocratic managing director who doesn't drink alcohol and doesn't like spending money. Far easier for me to piss and moan about it on an obscure section of an Internet forum than to be initiate the impossible

I'm sure there will be recriminations. We have a three-tiered workplace - full time contract, ongoing contract (normally renewed every three months) and casual pool. It's the biggest buddy club I've ever seen and the nepotism is amazing. The two managers are cousins. One big wig got his wife a job and another big dog got his sister a job. They continually keep their job where other people who work hard get the arse for "budget" reasons. They always dangle this notion of promotion to everyone, but whenever a job comes up, one of the manager's buddies gets it over good candidates.

I've never worked in government before so this shocked me, but I realised early on that this was the way they ran it. I have a full time contract based, which I earned by hard work. They tend to leave me alone even though I don't suck up to management. Problem is that I'll never get anywhere here.

As for the party, 12 people out of 100+ are going. Hopefully it stays that way and management realise that they're very unpopular. They're too stuck up their own arses to realise this though.

You sound like you work in a great place

For all my bitching about how boring our Christmas function is, I work for a great organisation, that is flexible, understanding and a good place to work. We haven't had anyone leave in the last 5 years from our branch other than our boss who went somewhere else as it was as a manager rather than a supervisor

Our Christmas functions are pretty good. We get taken out for lunch with drinks included. We all get a top shelf bottle and a Bunnings gift voucher and then onto a pub with the company paying for drinks and a Taxi home.
