I was watching the cricket - did I miss much
Eh- first 15 minutes wasn't much, 2nd half was all right (Note- from what I saw at my parents place)

Watched from up at Mt Nasura so could see both the city and Fremantle ones. Freo ones looked pretty good actually and almost went as long as the city ones. Thought the city ones were pretty average this year and they seem to use a lot of the same songs every year. what was with the ending though? it was like they announced the end and then like a minute later there was a bit more which didn't really go with the music.

Am I the only person that finds fireworks uninteresting? Seen them once, seen them all. Having them for every event nowadays doesnt help with the novelty .Even the Dockers have their pissy post game pyrotechnics now :p.

Yep agree. Especially the ones here. They go forever too.

So someone was stabbed to death last night in Perth. It wouldnt be the Australia Day fireworks without someone being bashed or killed.
In fairness, this occurred at 4AM this morning. It could have happened on any Friday or Saturday night. The Skyworks crowd had dispersed many hours earlier.

Just can't get my head around the fact that carrying a knife seems to be the norm these days. Won't be long before people will have to go through metal detectors at pubs and clubs etc., not that that would of changed this. Four AM on a Wednesday morning and 20 people gathered - you would think that in itself would of been an alert for police to go take a look or is this a case of people waiting for the first bus/train out

While its not a funny situation I do get a laugh whenever I read statements like this from the police

"Major Crime Squad detectives have taken over the investigation and are treating the incident as a suspected homicide."

I reckon they need to launch all 20,000, or whatever they do in 30 mins, all at once. 3 second show.
BOOM

that would impress me

booze restrictions?
The maximum of one six pack of beer or one bottle of wine and the fact you can only drink between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on the foreshores.

Well that was the case in 2011 when I went for the first and only time.

Anyhow the (alcohol aside) psychological factors that cause this violence remains an elephant in the room, but politicians and the media as always like simple targets.
