Not sure why the big deal about a few days of hot weather. These 'heat waves' only happen once or twice every summer. Most people have AC, pools or access to the beach anyway. Think you'll all live. The north of the state gets this stuff all the time.

As much as I hope you are right Loris, I have no doubt weather patterns are changing.

Whether this is cyclical or not, I am concerned for the future of Perth.

If the hot/dry weather is prolonged, food and water security becomes an issue along with people abandoning the city
for cooler climes.

Consequently property assets will be poo and we will have nowhere to go.

At times I think we are like the frog in water incrementally reaching boiling point.

I have to no wish to be a Cassandra but I sincerely wish our inaction and weakness doesn't cruel the lives of people to come.

While I think you are reading a lot into a few days of hot weather that hasn't even happened yet, I do agree with the sentiment.

However, I do have faith in the ability of humans to change our behaviour, adapt and maybe one day somehow reverse what is currently happening. Time is ticking though.

It is probably not the correct thread for this discussion Loris, but I genuinely believe it is too late to change things..

Wealth depends on expansion, exploitation and growth and I cannot blame all the new generations for wanting the benefits
that come from that and ensuring that mindset continues.

Hopefully technology as you say will assist and the young people may disavow that thinking of unending growth but is unlikely and ultimately, nature and the cosmos doesn't give a shit about us.

Rudd was a weak campaigner, has a lot to answer for and I feel for all the young people that will have to deal with the fallout of us not taking
the correct measures now that we do know better.

What the hell is going on with those roadworks on the freeway from Roe Highway going south? Its ridiculous. Drove down south Friday arvo, first time in about 6 months Ive been down that way, sat in traffic for literally an hour. Not a single roadworker to be seen anywhere and it was 3.30pm. Literally nothing has progressed for about two years. How hard is it to add another lane?

Its like the government is deliberately dragging this thing out to force people to use the trains and justify their existence, and push people to live closer to the city and pay more for houses and get more stamp duty.

I just dont see how anyone could live down that way and go into work in the city everyday and not go crazy sitting in that traffic all the time.
