Port Hedland and Geraldton are vastly different to how they were 20 years ado.
It does look a like nicer tho these days, apart from the wind it's quite nice along the coast.Geraldton hasn't changed that much - still full of red neck racists

Yeah, other than completely replacing the rail line and opening up the foreshore they've done nothing.Geraldton hasn't changed that much - still full of red neck racists

It's easy to call everyone racists in these towns, but it isn't a one way street. There are a lot of indigenous crew in these types of towns that aren't exactly easy to get along with. It's a real shame and not an easy situation to overcome. Can't be much worse than Kalgoorlie for racists.
Yeah, must admit I only go there about once a year. But I reckon it's a lot better than it used to be. We used to occy strap the cartons of export down before we drove through there! The front area does look good but everything else still looks tired and old. The "mall" is a disgrace
The lack of approval for new businesses is the same now as it was 20 years ago - non existent. Restaurants struggle to stay open, nothing opens after 8 and even pubs aren't open every day. The place is stuck in a time warp and controlled by a few families - even the dome on the foreshore is owned by a former council member and apart from the Jaffa van at the northern end of the beach there are no other businesses down there and he had to fight tooth and nail and threaten law suits to stay there.
The town is a shit hole
Interested to know what you'd like them to do?Yeah, other than completely replacing the rail line and opening up the foreshore they've done nothing.
Move Elizabeth Quay there.Interested to know what you'd like them to do?
I've heard the almonds in Geraldton are still de-activated and their vegetables are un-cultured.
Sounds like a third world countryNever. No way in christ.I wonder if WA will ever have a legitimate second city that is disconnected from Perth. I doubt it.
One day hopefully. I would advocate that all these WC clowns that spout garbage like 'The West is Ours' and 'The West is United' should be shipped out of Perth Metro and back up their talk.I wonder if WA will ever have a legitimate second city that is disconnected from Perth. I doubt it.

Too late in the development of the state now for that. All the govt and service industries are in Perth. Plus its just too ****ing hot up further north.I wonder if WA will ever have a legitimate second city that is disconnected from Perth. I doubt it.

Did lol......but if u want to claim the whole 'West is Ours" tag, I suggest you peeps get out there and experience it, perhaps start with Roebourne...Where did all this repressed trauma come from?

Mandurah would be pushing 100k but it isn't a hub for a variety of industries.Agreed.
Whenever it comes up, people suggest places like Kwinana and Port Hedland. No one wants to live there. Even the people that do don't want to.
If WA is/was ever going to have a second city it is/was going to be Geraldton or south of it.
WA would actually be better off if Bunbury was a city of 2-300,000 and Perth maxed out at 1-1.5m.

Yeah, Gero would be the first location. But aren't places like Gero, Bunbury and Albany already technically cities?? At of the day it comes down to work being available, you can't live somewhere without work. And in WA we only really have mining, fishing and agriculture outside of Perf. Hard to build a decent city around any of those.Agreed.

Same as Geelong compared to Geelong, the population proportions are similar . Also it is outside the defined border of the greater Perth Metro area.Mandurah is too close to Perth to be its own city. People live in Mandurah and commute to Perth on a daily basis.

Don't get me started about Peel. I'm about 1 beer away of firing up the Freo board about what a terrible arrangement it is and how we should be aligned with the Freo clubs...hahaSame as Geelong compared to Geelong, the population proportions are similar . (And both have their own AFL team, Hi TheLoris Peel is Yours!)![]()
