Rockingham is under-rated. Had far worst times in the City, Armadale and Yangebub.

Rockingham is the inbred capital of WA, possibly even Australia. I have family in Warnboro and thank f*** we can skip going through Rockingham altogether. I agree on Armadale. When I played junior footy we used to play against Armadale and I feared for my life every time we had to play out there. Yangebup is okay though.

Yangy is absolutely horrible. I have a grandparent unlucky enough to find themselves there. It's depressing. Dead grass everywhere, smashed letterboxes, car bodies left deserted, just a hellhole. The people are even worse. If your neighbours aren't calling their nine year old kids mother****ers, hitting their wives, or not appearing for a week through meth binges, you've gotten lucky.

However, this extends to literally every proper city. Adelaide has his inbreds in the north, Sydney has its west, Melbourne has its fringes... it's not Perth's fault, but Yangebup is the kind of place you'd rather kill yourself than live in.

I will say this: I find Perth's 'middle' suburbs to be a lot more appealling than Melbourne's. I think your inner corridor in Melbourne is really nice; it's also got the benefit of being a stroll or two minute tram ride to the CBD, when a similar suburb in Perth would be a hassle to head to Hay Street for. But once you get to the areas below, like, Camberwell, let alone towards Vermont, you hit absolute shithole territory. They have those massive powerlines everywhere, huge main roads, nobody knows how to grow a nice, decent native garden, it's just depressing. I'd much rather be in debt and live in a place with character than a glum hole like that – even a place like Essendon, reportedly traditionally of your middle class persuasion and anecdotally full of private school girls, isn't a very naturally nice looking place, nor architecturally interesting or unique. I'm honestly an advocate for the inner west of Melbs; Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville are close to the city, full of dozens of social groups, cheap, and the houses are nice looking. Few good pubs and burger places opening over there too. But say this to a regular, eastern suburbs Melburnian and they'll laugh you off: despite it taking them 30 minutes to get to the pub you're telling them this at, from there house which is near nowhere but a HJs and shopping centre and a highway and pubs where people get flogged nightly, not monthly.

I grew up in Armadale, one of the poorer dirtier suburbs but hardly unsafe. Never have been a victim of crime and used to walk home at 1-2am from that train station every night on the piss till that time whilst at uni and have never felt unsafe. For all the crap poorer suburbs get in Perth and plenty of other places in Australia, there's hardly any suburb that's genuinely unsafe to the point of avoiding like the plague. We just have suburbs that have more lower income people than others.

The places full of drunken louts at the time they are in full force are the troublesome areas.

But how many young men seriously do get intimidated after a night of drinking? You walk through #entertainmenthotspots and suburbs near Adrian Bailey's and still walk in ignorant bliss. I don't know. But I wouldn't want to raise a family in Armadale. Sooner move to the country

The first time I ever got punched in the face was playing junior footy against Armadale. G' times.

The feeling of safety is in part due to familiarity.

I'd feel a lot safer in Jull St mall than I would in the main street of Balga or some busted arse Northern suburb simply because I'm more familiar with the former.
Yeah can't wait to move out Balga. Every single house is being knocked down and three units put on the block :( don't know how people can live in those houses.
