I dislike daylight savings and see no need for it. We get enough daylight as it is in summer.

yes and yes.Do you? When every generation keeps on saying no?
Every generation has the right to say no. It's a proud WA tradition.

yes and yes.
When the debate flares up again, then as part of a democratic system people who weren't able to have a say in the last referendum are entitled to have their say in a referendum even if the no vote gets up again, and again.
The place would collapseShame we don't have a secession referendum every generation too.
If DST was introduced would we have a referendum on whether or not to get rid of it every ten years?
Yeah, well we had it for three years in a row recently and people obviously didn't get over it for no to get up in the vote.If it was introduced people would probably quickly get over it. Like extended trading hours.

And trying to compare fiddling with the clocks to extended shopping hours is silly.
Totally agree. Too many idiots.
It's not silly. You're silly.
People voted no to extended trading hours, too. We only have it because Emperor Barnett decided to bring it in. How many years have we had it? I reckon most people have forgotten it was even a thing.
Both DLS and extended trading hours are not referendum-worthy anyway. Minor issues in the grand scheme of things.
I maintain if DLS was introduced without the 'it's a trial, you have to vote yes or no at the end' that people would get over it and move on.
Has there ever been a referendum in Vic/NSW asking people over there how they're enjoying DLS?There will be another referendum and trial in 15 years time, which is fair enough as you need to let future generations have their say.
Or, like me, they rebel and ditch Facebook altogetherOf course.
It's just like everytime Facebook re-design the newsfeed. People are all up in arms about it but then continue using it and eventually move on.
Well maybe you guys should get rid of it, after initially being up in arms about it I'm sure you will all eventually get used to it and move on.Of course.

¿Que?Good luck giving up on the concept of time.
Unless you work for a bank or council or the Transport dept. etc.
Not that I know of. I think those states just passed it through legislation.Has there ever been a referendum in Vic/NSW asking people over there how they're enjoying DLS?
Lol
Once it gets in, that's it.
Made me a bitNot that I know of. I think those states just passed it through legislation.
QLD went to a vote and like WA the no vote got up.
In WA there was a referendum on Sunday trading in 2005. Whilst the no vote got up comfortably, it got to the point when WA needed Sunday trading anyway due to various reasons so the government seven years later just put it in without consultation.
Slight off-topic from the heated discussion on DLS..
Where can one find a decent pizza at daytime? Most of the real good places dont open until like 5pm, but I want one for lunch dammit!
No chain store suggestions please, want a real legit awesome pizza place like Ace Pizza (open only at nights) or Delisio(?) in Subiaco, which is a tiny little store but they've won shitloads of awards somehow and their pizzas are pretty good, open for lunch too!
DLS is great for young couples, teenagers and older families. It becomes a bit of a problem if you have a young family that needs to be up and out of bed in time for school the next day after staying up an hour later the previous night. It's great during the summer holidays, though (I spent my childhood in Vic and have no complaints). During term time, I struggled to get my young kids into bed while the sun was up and I couldn't get them ready for school the next day- despite telling them that we aren't chooks and don't go to bed at sundown...I liked DLS.
Who doesn't like an extra hour of backyard cricket after work ?
Now I have to use the 400W Metal Halides to light up the backyard. Costing me a fortune.
