Yes and yes.

So what are your parameters for "good food, decent prices and good service"?

If you want a good feed for $10, go to the Friday night Hawkers' market in Forrest Place - just don't expect crockery. Or a table. Or a roof.

If you want an amazing steak and fine wine in a nice location, go to The Old Brewery grill - just don't expect small notes to be of any use.

There's a whole lot in the middle...

Thanks, Ill give them a go

I'm a big fan of Papparich. Franchise restaurant, true, but it satisfies the three criteria you stated. Never disappointed there and although the food may not be absolute top notch, it's still fairly good (imo) and you can eat for well under $20 a head. Just be prepared to wait.

There are plenty.

Perth isn't yet what it could be, but some people really are a bit precious I think.

You should really go two or three hours outside of Perth if you want to see appalling service and high prices and an average outcome for all of it.

You're looking at $4.50 for a take away coffee. I was being stung $13 for a pint of Kronenburg down south for New Years. I asked the guy behind the bar what was cheapest... "oh, the Hahn's is $11.80..." You feel like a begrudging winner when you get Swan for $10...

I honestly just think Perth's middle and regular echelon prices are like Sydney/Melbourne's middle and upper echelon prices.

I actually don't see a problem with this.

Enjoying this milder than normal summer temperatures. Just how summer should be.
I've got a feeling Feb and March are going to bite us in the arse.
I don't know if it's just me, but every year, it seems to get hotter later and later.

lol who actually asks someone behind a bar what their cheapest beer to buy is.. :$
Usually you know but they didn't have the standard cheapies; but when you're a uni student it's a fairly common ask – especially when you're down to your last $25 on a night out...

As for $10 for the cheapest beer, it's fine in Perth but I'd usually be looking to get a goldie and some shrapnel in change for a pint of Coopers/Draught/whatever.

Though eating out in Kalgoorlie made most places in Perth seem like great value in comparison and the service even worse.
It's Perth. At least over east you don't need to ask for what the cheapest beer I because its all reasonably priced over there.

Can't think of a better place to be on Aistralia Day than the Perth/South Perth foreshore......if you don't like alcohol that is.

I don't know how a student could even afford to go out in WA drinking now days anyway, at least regularly.

True, when I was in uni I rarely gone to the city/Freo/Subi/etc to drink. It's either the uni tavern or someone's place after making a stop at the local bottleshop. $10+ for a pint is okay if you have a full time job, but not if you're on Youth Allowance and making a little bit on the side.
