And by trees I do not mean gum trees, which are (with a couple of exceptions) one of the worst things you could possibly hope to have as your greenery, along with the palm and other non-shady, falling branch tree types.
Palm trees seem to have been "in" when suburbs like Leeming, etc were being built. Bloody nuts, branches etc

I guess all trees have their problems, though.

I'm sure it's not number 1 on the list of priorities anyway when you're establishing a new suburb. Once they've got their infrastructure and rate payers set up, I'm sure the councils will shift their focus to more cosmetic things.

Very inefficient.

Doing the 'cosmetic' stuff (like just having some trees! any trees!) at the start and building around it makes for a more natural community, and saves you having to shoehorn it in a decade later when residents start complaining once their house is no longer so shiny.

Some more than others.

All the new suburbs are like that, doesn't matter north or south. I don't know if it was ever a legitimate policy, but a lot of the more established suburbs would at least have a tree out the front of all the houses, as if it was mandatory for the council or something.

We have been in our house for about 3 1/2-4 years now in a relatively new suburb and had one of those council trees out the front. It got ripped out fairly quickly.

Probably, but if it's in the way of tradies/cranes etc, it's not going to be there for too long. Someone would have figured out eventually to save the trees until after the animals have passed through.

Why was that, gaskin? And who did the ripping?

Because they planted it in a shit position. It was my dad who ripped it out of the ground.

You can't blame the developers for looking after their bottom line, you have to question why the State and local governments allow it to go ahead, though. Low density housing with the associated exorbitant infrastructure costs will hurt us in the long run.
It's quite disturbing how the city is just mindlessly sprawling outwards.

I do believe that's illegal or at least it used to be.

I suppose it would be nigh on impossible now to "beautify" a suburb when the blocks are so small and so many are crammed into the one development. Some of them don't even have enough room for more than one car at a time let alone a tree on a verge. I like the idea of allotments within sub-divisions - great meeting place for communities, if managed properly they can save you money in the long run and more importantly encourages biodiversity. Too often it seems developers walk in - clear the land, make their money and then leave the problems to local councils - maybe it's time that they were made more accountable.

Yes, the block sizes are an issue and probably why most of these new developments' idea of a garden consists of some of those boring palms that produce minimal shade.

Trees not only make your house and surrounding suburbs look more pretty, they actually reduce the heat around your property and street.

My problem is going to be squeezing my 100 favourite trees and bushes into a plot the size of a small handkerchief after spending 10 years on a 5 acre lot, planting what I liked where I liked..

Anything to do with Capitol/Amplifier is douchebag related. That's why no major promoters go near the place to have gigs anymore and they're either at the Astor or Bakery.
Mates used to play at Amplifier with their metal band. I enjoyed it.

On an aside I have been to some amazing raves there back in the 90's when Gravity was moved there when DC's shut down with the highlight being DJ Kenny Kenn and MC Fearless in 98.

What the heck are you going to do with your rooster collection, lol.

:(
I'm struggling to find room for the dog and 3 cats :(

If it's not too personal, then why the drastic change in lifestyle if it's causing so much angst

I thought most Asians stayed away from the beach? Maybe not so much the teenagers- they have no problems, though many Asians are poor swimmers (forgive the generalisations- just my own observations over the years).

I think the older generation are less incline (or interested) to visit the beaches but I am noticing young families are heading to the waters more often and making a great day out of it.

A lot of them are very sun-conscious- hence the parasols/umbrellas when they have to walk somewhere in the middle of the day.

I never really understood that actually. We do not burn very easily.
Asian girls spend their whole life trying to make themselves more fairer and Caucasian girls spend their whole life trying to make themselves more tan. Go figure.

Ahhh honky nuts. The ammunition of the young boy growing up. Could not count the number of times I have been hit by one of those in head thrown by one of my friends.

I think it's more the dark sunspots they might be prone to, that they try to avoid. You'll see young Asian ladies walking with those wide-brim/peaked caps, too.
I got this info from an Indonesian lady that I used to walk with.
And I have seen dark Indians get sunburnt- you can see a redness under their usual colour.

Honky nuts- I THINK- are the huge gum nuts, rather than the fruit of a palm- but I get your meaning! :)
There's a seed pod from a deciduous tree at my kids' school that used to provide hours of itchiness for my oldest son :(
Think they are called plane trees.

I got rashes and hay fever just looking at that photo. I can imagine his friends taking a handful and chucking it down his shirt :(

They planted a gum tree in front of my house, directly under the power line headed to my house. ****ing morons.

So essentially they need to come every X months to butcher the tree.
