Ahhh. thanks :) So that looks like 3 units attending.

That's a bugger :(

Would be 3rd alarm + additional resources, which is quite common. Certainly more than 3 units for a fire that size.

Classifying a bushfire incident as 3rd alarm just serves to deploy other services like District Officers and Incident Control Vehicles.

Thanks for clarifying that. Is a unit a truck? Should I have said 3 'brigades'- i.e. the collection of vehicles at a particular location? Definitely 3 trucks wouldn't have been enough :(
My brother was a firey with the CFA in Vic but he's quite a bit younger than I am and only joined as a volunteer when I was over here in WA, so I never learned the language. :(

Missing the thunder and lightning tonight. Quite enjoyed the show over the last few days.

Vale late night trains.

Passenger numbers quoted seem very flimsy, but if the patronage really is low then it makes sense to cancel the services. I'd keep trains until 1am on Fri/Sat nights personally. That's around the time a lot of people go home as pubs tend to close at 12/1. Clubgoers (well who gives a **** about them anyway, clubbing eats dick) are generally out into the wee hours so it's not efficient to carry train services for them.

If these late trains are so costly why not just make people pay a fare? Would really not bother me swiping my Smartrider and spending $3 considering a taxi would be probably be $40.

Its pretty normal for trains to stop at midnight. Even the London subway does. People would need to pay a significant fare to make them worthwhile.

I'd wager that most trains running on the weekend do so at a significant loss. All trains outside Mon-Fri peak hours actually. I watch trains go down the Freeway at 8pm on a Tuesday night for example with more transit guards than passengers.

PT is a service, so it needs to run within a community agreed window even if it's not profitable. There's a limit to how much you can scale back services based on low passenger numbers before it's pointless running a service in the first place.
