I did intend to vote.. just forgot to do it :(
Doesn't matter- looks like Kwinana were the ones that didn't want to merge with us in the end ;)

I didn't understand why city of Vincent and the western suburb councils wern't part of this vote - they've been up in arms over it for ages and then don't have a vote on it - bizzare

Why are those damn universities using my tax dollars to buy fireworks?

A nice fireworks display upon graduation will be one of the reasons why they will be increasing fees

Very lucky Northcliffe Fire

You forget how big the trees grow in that neck of the woods - it's not exactly what I imagined when I first heard that a tree had fallen on a truck

The CoV decision has been taken away from the ratepayers because Col is forcing that amalgamation. Then making them 2nd tier rate payers of Perth.

Just on the fires, Was talking to a mate and saying that I cant remember a fire season this bad in Perth for a while. The last couple of years have had its moments but this year has been crazy. Maybe its just me...Dunno

The missus was looking at facebook the other night, and they'd posted a picture of the area of the fire, but superimposed over Perth on the map to give an indication of how big it is (****ing huge, fwiw), along with a very clear caption explaining that it was only for comparison purposes. Within minutes, predictably, the comments are chockers with people asking if that's just showing where the smoke is, if they need to evacuate, and suggesting the boundaries of the map be extended as it doesn't even reach Northcliffe...

Vics must have had a diffrent incident
It's mentioned in this article:

Edit: it's the same incident. This article has the same photo as you posted:

yeah- to have 130,000 ha of bush burning in just over a week is shocking. But that's what 50-year old fuel loads will do.
I think it was the combination of the unusual weather last week and the lack of controlled burning over a number of years- plus 2 months on no rainfall at all. CALM/whoever they are now, will never catch up on the burning backlog and this is nature's way of dealing with the problem.
The heat from those fires has done a helluva lot more damage to the forest than regular controlled burnings would've done.
