Food vans are so underrated.

The Hawkers Market can't take up Forrest Place all the time (though it is generally empty) but there should be more locations. Kinda like how each Ag Society has their own show and all the carnies move between each one.

Food vans are essentially self contained so as long as you have an area big enough for a dozen or so of them to park and some picnic tables etc. then you can have a thing.

There's a vibe I've never felt before in Perth. say what you want about the Giants and tax payers money but they've had a massive effect. Heading to Domican, a fringe show and a huge night.

Love it.

They do seem to be popping up all over the place now - I actually just came back from our local one in Mt Hawthorn and was a bit disappointed tbh after such a promising start earlier in the year. Every second store and there would of been no more than 10 had pulled pork on the menu - I know it's the new flavor of the month but it's got a bit out of control
Yeah they need to have some variety. Just having several stands trying to out do each other on the latest hipster trend is so bland.

Perth could do with a few more quality German and Eastern European food joints. Some of the best "man's man" food on the planet

I've heard that the zapfhall in freo is pretty good as is Brotzeit in William street although more expensive

Drove through the city tonight, so many pedestrians everywhere in the CBD. Say what you want about the Giants, but if the first day is any indication it's a winner. Those people need to park in the city, eat and drink, and do things other than watching the Giants, and that equals $$$. Not really interested in standing there and taking pictures of them but I think the economic benefits are worthwhile. Having the Hawkers Market, Fringe Festival and Giants on at the same time generated tremendous energy in Perth.

Thumbs up for me.

I'd assume majority of people will be taking public transport

The queues at maccas were disappointing.

Yep I assume the trains and buses were working overtime but I drove past several carparks (Citiplace, Roe St, Langley Park) and all had the full sign.

The queues at maccas were disappointing.

Should've paid double at the Hawkers Market for less filling food.

Australians like to try and talk up regional differences in our accent, but the reality is from city to city there is barely any difference.

There are a couple of potentially notable difference - Victorians with the salary/celery merger for example - but overall they would be barely noticeable to other Australians, let alone outsiders.

Pool - poo-ol (seems more of an East thing)
Dance - darnce (Radelaide)
Chance - charnce (Radelaide)
Castlemaine - Cassell-maine (Qld)

Differences are so minor considering we were settled by the British. Throw an area the size of the ACT anywhere over the UK and you'll find huge differences.

that's what I used to think, now I'm not so sure. I think Queenslanders, especially north Queenslanders have a distinct regional accent, and I think South Australians are a bit different too.

There is a difference between socio-cultural accents - broad, standard and cultivated - and, like I said, a small amount of regional variation.

But anyone outside Australia will be unlikely to spot the latter, and the former is disappearing; broad because we're becoming self-aware, cultivated because it's not being trained.

Well travelled tourists would probably notice it more than us. I have been told quite often, both here and overseas that people from WA seem to speak "proper" English and don't sound as harsh as those on the Eastern seaboard - we apparently also use far less slang.
