Would the crowds in Broome have justified the cost of bringing them into town though?

Probably not. Best case scenario would be a crowd in the order of 15000 maybe 20000 at a stretch so it's unlikely. That said these things are going home on a boat that could have docked in Broome - unload the diver take him for a stroll and put him back in his box and continue the journey home

That said Most of the $5mil would be getting them to Perth and the crowd management and logistics of moving them around Perth. It may not have been a massive extra cost to unload in Broome for a day and an iconic picture of a 10 metre diver with a Broome sunset in the background would be quite something. Would be nice to think that some thought was given to taking the giants elsewhere

No way. $5 million dollars, would have been lucky to get a few thousand people there, as opposed to 600,000 people here.

I was in rotto all weekend and missed the giants. Have heard good things, but Im struggling to get my head around and relate to the public fascination of it all, and the massive lines and mayhem trying to get there and home. It was only two massive puppets being carted around by a crane...I just dont get it. Guess I had to be there.

Why did they move him from Fiona Stanley- which is only a few kms away- and take him to RPH if he's listed as 'critical'? I thought everything there was state of the art?

Freeway was still closed at 9am- looked like the cops were about to open it up, though.

My brother in law is a doctor in emergency at RPH

He says that RPH has and still is coping all the extra emergency because the systems down in Fiona Stanley aren't working fully yet. Teams don't know each other that well and everyone's still learning how things go.

So RPH is getting the overflow.

Though back in January RPH was basically getting all of the emergency because Fremantle stopped accepting and Fiona Stanley wasn't open

So now it's just the crowds? What happened to economic benefits like tourism? If you had that hype created around places like Broome or Mandurah, that's the type of thing that would attract tourists to WA, and not just in the short term. Not some concrete jungle that looks the same as any other city. Where would the majority of those tourists enter WA? Broome International Airport, I hear you say? No. They would fly into and base themselves in Perth. Suddenly, everybody is winning.

Was talking with my wife yesterday about how they work out how many people attend these things. Our conclusion was think up a number and double it, then triple it for good measure

I think we might be on to something

You can add public servants to your list. I'm quite a prolific reader but there was a time when I was in the Navy that I was in Canberra and worked with Commonwealth public servants. Some of their work would come across my desk and it would actually give me a headache reading it.

Who's in Broome at this time of the year? All the nomads won't appear until after the wet, notwithstanding the fact that it's too expensive and overrated.

I did go and like I said above it was an amazing work of art on a grand scale. To involve that many people is unheard of but then again maybe that's a problem because Perth people love hyping something when it comes to town.

Watched the Glory game yesterday in Northbridge as I usually do. In the wake of my experience catching PT directly into the city on Saturday afternoon I decided yesterday to go to Perth via Freo. That many families crammed in the train tends to get me insane.

I went to the Giants yesterday and caught the train from Bayswater. Got myself a seat on the train, plenty of parking left at the station and there was hardly anyone on the train! There was a shit tonne of people in the city, of course, but it was totally fine. Had a great time and enjoyed a fantastic lunch at The Old Crow later. A good weekend for Perth. Those complaining about it are boring or impatient
