Casually driving up the freeway this morning and next thing I see is a guy on a unicycle riding on the bike path next to the freeway.
That's quite an unusual sight. I didn't think anybody used those bike paths.

Lets not get started on cyclists around the Nedlands area.

Last year my unusual road sighting was someone driving along Armadale Road in an army tank. Being behind the wheel prevented me from taking pics.

Guy in his 50s?

I see the same bloke on a unicycle all the time in the city and I've seen him get off around Bull Creek/Murdoch somewhere on the train with it.

Yep guys been unicycling into work for years now.

I cycled around Mounts Bay Rd the other day. There's a 2 lane cycle path and everything. Pretty sure I was the first person on a bike to ever use it. Much better to clog up a narrow, busy road.
There is a shared path, not a cycle path, which is very heavily used by walkers, runners and cyclists. Groups of riders cruising at 30+km/h rightly use the road

If you're desperate to ride in groups at 30 km/h+ then why don't you just ride on one of the million other roads in Perth that aren't narrow and an important artery into the city?

There is a cycle, sorry, "shared" path right there which cyclists can use and choose not to. I ride on shared paths all the time, it's really not that hard.

Shared paths are generally not suitable for riding at that sort of speed, so cyclists doing that sort of speed will be using the shared road instead.

Driving in and out of the city is not a social activity. I don't gather my friends and our cars together and drive along Mounts Bay Rd at 30 km/h for the hell of it because that would severely disrupt traffic flow.

I mean I don't like sharing the road to the airport with trucks, roadworks vehicles etc. but they're all serving a function, and I can't just drive on a quiet road in the hills somewhere because that won't lead to the airport which is the point of me being on that road...

There is a shared path around the river along Mounts Bay Rd. There are shared paths elsewhere. There are roads elsewhere which are quieter and wide enough to have cycle lanes marked. Nope, cyclists want to ride in groups on the road along narrow Mounts Bay Rd. And they wonder why people think they are dicks.

Which roads would they be, pray tell?? Sometimes there is no other choice.

I do appreciate that cyclists need somewhere to ride but put the blame at the council's feet for not having adequate roads in place, not on drivers, cyclists or pedestrians. I often see cyclists riding down the 80kph Jandakot Rd, where there is almost no shoulder to speak of and certainly no bike path- and there are often aprons of loose gravel extending out from run off from driveways that lead down to Jandakot Rd. I must admit I get pissed off when the cyclists bunch up 3 across and cars can't get past because of double white lines.

Other roads that can be too narrow include Burke Dr along the Swan River- which gets very busy on the weekends during footy and cricket season in particular, and The Esplanade in Mt Pleasant - and I suspect all other roads along the rivers have the same problem. There are far too many people out walking atm for these shared paths to work properly and it must frustrate cyclists to get stuck behind pedestrians as much as it frustrates drivers who get stuck behind cyclists on the way to and from work.

I must admit I crack the shits when I see cyclist riding on the road when there is a perfectly good bike path next to them.

Then I just indicate out and pass them and realise that it's not really that big a deal.
That would depend on the road and, if it's a narrow one, oncoming traffic. I'm pretty sure that this is Scotland's gripe.
But, yeah, there are other bigger deals around on our roads and cyclists, to me, are a minor annoyance.

Idiot drivers piss me off more. I play a game called 'spot 10 F-wits in 15 minutes' on my way to and from school each day. I haven't lost a game yet!

wut
do u get annoyed at sitting in traffic and rage at the other people who are not driving to/from work in the most direct route possible?

That is the usual peak traffic flow on Mounts Bay Rd. If its offpeak, simply change lanes and go past, it's not that hard.

How does a cyclist living in Nedlands get to the hills? By using Mounts Bay Rd :drunk:
Then you will have some moron driver out in the hills complaining about cyclists using "their" road for fun.

Why do you drive down Mounts Bay Rd instead of using Thomas St? Cos its more convenient. Same reason cyclists are using Mounts Bay Rd - its the most convenient route to where they are going. Not sure where these mythical cycle lanes are between UWA and the City.

.
Hahaha- that's really funny because, YES!!! I do actually get annoyed at all the people from Canning Vale and Armadale using MY road!! lol

The only road I can really drive on to get to school is always severely blocked up every morning for quite a few kms. It's only 1 lane and those other people can use the 3 laned Armadale Rd or South St, whereas I have no alternative route!
I end up driving through some back streets, as soon as I can get off 'MY' road, and manage to cut about 5 minutes off the usual route, where I'd be sitting in a long line for that whole time.

Coming home is the same- everyone uses MY Karel Ave- MY way home!! so now I go 5 kms out of my way to avoid sitting there for half an hour as well. :)

Obviously, in changing my route to and from school, I am invading someone else's personal route to and from work ;) Oh well...

Hopefully once the freeway is widened, the traffic will ease a little in those areas.
