Emergency services were headed out there to force a lower speed limit but got there too late.

The other two fatalities were motorbike riders.

Terrible day - there also seems to be an inordinate number of motorbike deaths in Perth lately. I wonder how our rate compares to the rest of australia

Won't be the last we hear about the freeway I think.

The motorbike ones were weird. One was a bike crashing into a car parked in the emergency lane on the freeway and the other was a collision between a bike and a ute travelling in the same direction

Was just in the Perth train station, so they're peddling free trains between 12 and 1.30?

Weren't they going to cut them due to being unprofitable just 2 months ago? Making them free makes perfect fiscal sense....

On the basis of being concerned about the death toll in the wheatbelt, police targeted 13 towns and basically stopped everybody moving for an alcohol/drugs test. I'd like to see them try that stunt in the city.

I spent an inordinate amount of time on the roads today and tbh I'm surprised there aren't more accidents given the number of idiots behind steering wheels or sitting on bikes

They were free before. The smart move would have been on the back-pedal to say "OK, we'll keep the trains on late but you're going to have to pay now", and nobody would have minded at all.

Haven't the late trains always been free? I think they were going to cut them before because they thought no one was using them but it turned out to be dud figures

There's no real need for the late trains to be free. A zone 3 ticket is like $5, and that takes in all the stations apart from the deep South and deep North.

A taxi from the city to Armadale or Midland or ****-burn would cost you $50, so the train is a good deal in that regard.

The only real advantage to the trains being free is that if it's 1am and you've had a skinful you don't want to get a fine for not buying the wrong ticket or forgetting to buy one etc.

So CH9 news running the story about how the crash on the kwinana freeway happened and why drivers weren't warned about poor visibility as it was reportedly down to 1 metre which sounds like bs to me

Without wanting to apportion blame it's curious to me that if visibility was that bad why a truck was travelling fast enough to roll in an accident - takes a fair bit of momentum to flip a truck.

And if you can't see very far surely you have the common sense to slow down without having to be told

Pretty disgraceful from a "professional driver" to be travelling way too fast for conditions, now he's killed 2 people and will have to live with that for the rest of his life.

What speed have they reported him to have been travelling at?
I'm surprised that the police have released details of the crash so quickly- they usually take a lot longer than that... or is this what the media vultures have concluded?

Essendon has floated the idea of recruiting Brownlow Medallist and premiership captain Ben Cousins as a top-up player, following an eye-catching dash through a busy Perth shopping arcade.

“The footage shows that he hasn’t lost a yard of pace, and clearly his evasive skills are still at the elite level,” said Essendon recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro.

Cousins was captured on CCTV footage talking calmly with police, before suddenly putting several yards between him and the pursuing officer with a dynamite first step reminiscent of his rampaging center clearance work at the West Coast Eagles. Dodoro says Cousins could be the perfect fit as a fill-in for the Bombers this season as he has sublime skills, a wealth of experience and they have already asked pretty much every other footballer in the country.

;)

I agree about the channel 9 report being pathetic, as in, the people complaining. It's not authorities fault at all.
I knew it was coming though - people always want to blame someone else particularly the authorities

They haven't really provided much detail in the news reports I've seen - I made a comment earlier that the truck was likely travelling fairly fast to have rolled over like that. Given visibility was shit, I'm surprised he was travelling at any sort of speed. Just how the crash occurred though I've no idea
