I loved playing at Burswood before they closed it to build the new football stadium. Had it's challenges but still gave you a chance to hit a decent score.

I don't know how many I've played but I'm still not good. I'd advise getting a few lessons (I did a few years ago at Fremantle public). It will at least give you an idea of what you should be trying to do and where you're making mistakes. Also, rather than practise on the golf course, go to a driving range and hit a bucket of balls. I start with a 7 iron and work up through 100 balls to the driver. Also good to practise chipping, putting and bunker shots as they usually have a couple of greens and a bunker at the range too if it's any good.

Am probably going to start playing it on a more regular basis to get some practice in. Any recommendations for a relatively easy course from Mandurah-Perth

Marri Park is pretty easy.

As a complete hack I like the Mandurah country club. Easy enough course but still with a bit of contours and variety. Decent price as well, about $40 a round walking and I think $100 is a standard deal for 2 with a cart.


Anyone else use the golf voucher book ? For us green fee players there's some good deals in there and it's really encouraged us to get out and play different courses.
 
Every mug golfer in Perth should play a round at Armadale.

It's not difficult, but it's not maintained to the standard of the popular public courses that are busy 7 days a week. If you hit into the rough you'll definitely know about it, especially in summer when it's dry and dusty as ****. None of this 'grass just a bit longer than the fairway with the odd weed' off the edge of the fairways passing for rough.

Although it's as expensive as a trip to Bali, I love the Quarry + Dunes 18 at Lake Joondalup.

Also, for any semi-serious golfers out there who are interested in trying new courses / getting a handicap, I can't recommend PGN enough. $250 gets you a comp at a different course every day of the week, with discount rates compared to public rates, as well as a bunch of yearly goodies like a golf discount book and golf shirt.

Marri-Park is enjoyable and not too hard. I personally like secret harbour. Kwinana is ok. Same as Rocko but you do get pushed about by members a little. I head meadow springs goes ok. Havent had a chance to play it yet though. :)

I don't know if that's available any more, WCER. My kids have to use an app and check in every time they park. I then get monthly parking costs taken out of my account.

If you get out of your car and forget to check in, you get a fine- which is (I think) about $50. My kids have had a couple each that they've paid. I reckon it's easier to remember to get a ticket, 'cos you see the ticket machines everywhere, than it is to remember to check in on an app. It's only about $3 per day- there are more expensive carparks- I think UWA is a lot more- and it's not something that people are deliberately trying to get away with for the most part.

That still works out to a bit if you are going most days. At Murdoch we can buy a yearly parking permit for $150. Or if you want to park 50 metres closer you can pay $350.

Yeah, it all adds up- not sure of the costing vs catching trains and buses every day. Time-wise, it's easier for my kids to use their cars and parking at Cockburn is always difficult. My daughter uses a permit at UWA but Curtin get more money out of their students by using the app method and fining the forgetful kids. :( Only staff are able to have permits at Curtin.

Most times I play with the same group of 4 and one of the guys keeps an eye on the groupon/scoupon things. A few times now Rockingham have had a deal of $44 for four people walking and a pint each after the round.

So basically their beer is a little over priced but at least you get a free round of golf with it :)
