"Welcome to McDonalds can I take your order?"
lol
Or they work nightfill....

Seems strange that the Unis take so many students with only a vain hope of a job in the relevant field when they graduate. I guess teaching is an option but, gee, there are so many useless degrees out there!

Once upon a time the point of university was that you went to learn for its own sake, not to get a certificate that lets you earn $$$.

Good old NIMBYs

Some of the dumbest people around in many ways.

Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

NIMBYs is one of the dumbest sayings going around.
The last thing we need is a Maccas 50 metres away from a junior football club and 200 metres away from a primary school.

What is the problem - I know it's a foreign concept for some parents but really, it's not that hard to say NO.

If it's a traffic problem by all means but other than that what is the issue.

Lol at UWA arts students protesting today about their basket weaving degrees being taken away from them.
Had a quiet chuckle to myself as I walked past them today on my way to a lecture for an actual, relevant course.

It is a traffic problem, also no one wants drunk idiots driving down their formerly quiet residential street in the middle of the night. We already have a problem with drunk drivers taking the back streets of Applecross to avoid cops on Canning highway.
Not that far from another Maccas at Garden City either, so what's the fuss?
No one is saying Maccas can't be in shopping centres, thats completely different.

Not every university degree is a ticket to riches. Nurses are pretty useful. They get paid what, $40-50k?

The problem is producing graduates who don't have sufficiently valuable skills/knowledge to justify the level of govt funding that has gone into their education.

McDonald's Applecross is on Canning Hwy, at the corner of Sleat Rd. 'New' McDonald's Applecross will be on Canning Hwy, at the corner of Reynolds Rd.

Won't all the drunken idiots who drive down Sleat Rd just drive down Reynolds instead? Reynolds is much more of a major road, too.

Just reading about the horrific crashes in the Southern suburbs over the last week! Wow! How tragic!

5 young kids dead- all due to speeding in high-powered cars.
I heard about the Armadale Rd crash last night when it came up on the news, but I only found out about the Southern River crash when my daughter returned from camp and said two of the boys were cousins of her friend at school.

Yep the SR one is just around the corner from me and I regularly run along that road. So sad :(

There seems to be one of these multiple fatalities every year or so, with a car full of kids killed. Their families would be just shattered. My son's friends passed away 7 years ago in similar circumstances and I saw how affected their school friends were, as well as the families, who I knew well. I would not wish anything like this on my worst enemy!

It'd be tough for you going past the scene every day, too. I went past the site of the accident in Riverton only last week and felt sad and empty - and that's 7 years later. If your kids were involved, you'd have to move far, far away, I'd reckon!

Am I a terrible person for not having much sympathy for people who pass away from a result of ridiculous speeding?
No, I don't think so. There's an element of that in my feelings as well. But not knowing the circumstances and realising that there were 3 kids in the car with that driver who lost their lives as well, it sort of makes me feel that they didn't deserve to die, so I do have sympathy.

Yeah I kind of think that as well so I get what you are saying as well. I feel more sad for those who weren't driving,

I know some of the Crew who were tasked to the job was a big mess
Yeah, those people are real heroes. It would be a nasty nasty business. Was it you who posted a link just the other day about the mental health problems of people who work in those first response areas? I can understand why their brain would be a mess.

I have sympathy for those who were the passengers. I've been in a car where the driver hasn't given a toss about how his passengers are feeling about the speed he was travelling.

It's interesting you mention that accident on Vahland Avenue - I was only talking about that to my daughter on the weekend when we were travelling along Jon sanders drive. The intersection of harborne and Brady (becomes Jon sanders) has the same dip that made that car lose control because of the speed it hit it at. Was an absolute tragedy so close to their tee exams - impact on students must of been massive
