I had to take my youngest daughter out to Canning Vale instead, at the end of last year when she got her Ls. Far out- that place is really really tough to drive around as a new learner. There are frigging little lakes and dips and no sides to sloping roads that end up in ditches and everything (this is out in Piara Waters or around that way).

First day, driving along... there's a lake down alongside where we are driving and we're just about to turn left at the corner and something catches my daughter's eye...
OH LOOK!!! A DUCK!!!
BANG!!!! does sharp turn right into the gutter as she's going around the corner. AARGGGHHHH!!!

Okaaayyyy.... let's not go that way.. *turns her around*.......

bloody fluff head!!
Strangely enough I liked highway rural stuff learning compared to the shitty chaos of the burbs. Cruise out all on the Brookton Hwy or something.

I guess a lot of roads are easier because they are 40 kph near schools but the speed limit on Beeliar doesn't drop, does it?

My kids are at Corpus, on Murdoch Dr- and that goes down to 40kph for a good length.

Where have you moved to, Van Dyke?

Roadworks around South Street/Murdoch were absolute SHIT for a year or more when they were getting things done for the new hospital. MUCH MUCH better now, though. :)
Meant as in at the school. Would have been entertaining for me now has it would have meant the drop off area would have gone onto the road section they worked on. Still in Winthrop, within walking distance of Winthrop primary and Corpus.

Just got back from The Last Drop in Beeliar. I've been meaning to go there since it opened but never had the chance but I have to say it was quite good. The food was nice and the Pilsener beer they do wasn't too shabby either. The service was excellent too. I'd recommend it if you are in the area.
Been to the one in Canning Vale (I assume it's the same company) and agree it was great service etc and yeah I loved the Pilsener.

I might swing by and have a look to see what they've done. Haven't been there for a while, though- I walk my dog at Piney Lakes but usually park on the Murdoch Rd side nowadays.

For good reason, I was there when a student in the year below me was killed crossing Murdoch Drive :(

Before the Lollypop guards and the 40km/h school zone it was a standard 70km road, in hindsight makes you wonder how a kid wasn't killed earlier.

David? About 15-ish years ago? Can't remember his name. My kids were still at Yidarra when that happened. It was the young boy who'd left his science (?) homework home, wasn't it?

Just had a thought- the Somerville lights weren't there at that stage either, were they?? I can't remember but think there were no lights there when we first arrived at Yidarra. That would've been about 19 years ago.

David Elliot was 15, didn't know him well but had met him a few times and had a few conversations with him, was a nice enough kid.

The science project was to bring a glass of tap water in to analyze, he had forgotten it and as he lived near the school and was rushing home to grab it as it was almost home room time. Misjudged his timings crossing the road and well yeah, RIP.

Traumatized the poor lady who hit him as well as she had no time to stop.

Lights were there I think at the time, he tried to cross close to where the entrance is near the oval.

Yeah, it's a tragedy for both parties. I actually understood that he stepped out, saw a car so then stepped back into the car behind him -but that story was about 10th hand by the time I got it.

My friend was one of the science teachers- in fact I had lunch with her yesterday ;) I know he was one of her students at some stage but not sure if she had him the year it happened. Didn't know homework was to bring in water- thought he had forgotten some paperwork or something..

Terribly terribly sad :( And imagine being his teacher :(

what was on, Beerfish? Please excuse my ignorance :)
Robbie Williams. I was doing the husbandly thing and going along with wifey. I thought yeah I don't mind a few of his songs should be okay. There's literally 4 songs I don't mind and the rest was boring as ****. Not a spare seat in the place though. Seemed like even all the wheelchair possies were taken too.

:) Good on you! Pity you didn't enjoy it a bit more but hope you got a few brownie points up with your wife ;)

She was a bit annoyed that I kept yawning and didn't clap tbh.
well I guess your brownie points were automatically halved :(

The nail in your coffin would be the immediate walk to your computer to log onto BF instead of spending the rest of the evening with wifey ;) hehe- there go the rest of your points! :(

Earn some brownie points back by reenacting the Rock DJ video clip for her.

Who is your friend? I might have had her as my teacher at some stage as well

How lame is that "busker" who wear the silver suit and crash helmet in Northbridge? Just sort of stands there vaguely swaying to various electronic noises and a drumbeat from a CD player.
