I think that the fireys are allowed toto put themselves in danger these days, whereas in years gone by, they would've been criticised for not going to fight a particularly bad fire. Once the order to evacuate has been given, if people choose to stay and try and save their homes, it's at their own risk- the firefighters will only help them if they don't endanger their own lives, as you've said.
And good on them for making a stand. Far too many firefighters have died in recent years.

Firefighters who are volunteers can refuse to fight fires that are particularly bad & you can't force the volunteers to do something they don't want to do otherwise volunteer bushfire brigades won't have the numbers to stay open

don't know- but I have two boys out that way atm.. hope they're behaving themselves ;)

what time was that, gaskin?

Around 5:30. There were 4 on the platform, another about 6 on the bridge to the bus station and then another 5 or so at the bus stops with a sniffer dog.

May be linked to Operation Sleeper where the cops were at train stations targeting car theft.

Sad news about Rumble the Police Dog. Sounds like he is in a bad way.

Perth icon is the old boy.
