I heard its actually a spaceship which crash landed in the 1980s and WA Inc. covered it up

Correct. Luckily the outer suburbs get their paper a few days late or all of Perth would've known about it ;)

I think it looks good. Would prefer if it was 4 times bigger as it was initially designed before all the sooks screamed. This is the biggest positive of Barnett because he just don't give a f*ck and builds it anyway. It's not a genuine tourist attraction but it's better than another beige building.

Ultimately though, as you say, it's doing no harm. Destroying it is ******* moronic.

It's a waste of space and money because they ****ed up the design so badly. If they had gone with the original design of it being all glass and twice the size it could have looked cool. Instead we got the half sized POS with the ugly copper sail around it.

It's just meh-ish

So we should waste more money demolishing it?

I get it, it isn't what it should have been, I agree. That doesn't mean we should flatten everything. Hillary's boat harbour isn't what it should have been either.

The pay money to blow it up was tongue in cheek, we're stuck with Richard Courts **** up unfortunately.

I don't mind it - don't think it's the eyesore that some appear to be making it out to be. It's certainly not WOW but it will suffice.

It's a bit like the EQ - I envisaged something completely different from what is taking shape. I imagined an Olympic sized "harbour" but instead it resembles a wading pool

I saw EQ from Kings Park last week and reckon it's looking great. It's hard to get the scale at this stage.
It depends on what ends up being built around it that will see if it grows a future soul.

Should read SookNow (New name for Perthnow). Anything that Colin does that you know tries to make Perth better is met with the following responses from the armchair infrastructure experts:
  • OMG, I THOUGHT WE HAD NO MONEY, WHY ARE WE BUILDING THESE WHITE ELEPHANTS WHICH WILL GENERATE NO MONEY (Yes, all from that Steve!)
  • WHY NOT BUILD TO KWINANA INSTEAD? (which has no infrastructure yet but probably the next thing but lets complain about it now)
  • WE DON'T NEED TRUCKS, WHY DON'T WE BUILD RAIL INSTEAD?
  • WE DON'T NEED A NEW STADIUM, SUBIACO IS FINE (yes, I've legitimately seen that response and laughed!)
  • ROE 8 WILL DESTROY THE WETLANDS
I think my new pastime will be trawling Perthnow :drunk:

That's why I'm glad we have a premier that doesn't give a shit and does it anyway. Too many politicians bow to public pressure and compromise the future in doing so.

I don't agree with everything he does but at least he has a spine and a view beyond the next election.

Generally those politicians meet with unfortunate ends (as in losing elections, not dying). Ie. Howard/Thatcher etc :p

My office overlooks the EQ and it looks good. I think this will be a huge improvement. And at least we will have something to show for all the $$$ mining dollars we squandered in the past 10 years. I like it alot.

The feds did start pulling back the GST from WA with the Mining Boom so the state didn't receive that much of a boost from the mining revenue.

People seem to forget that when Colin made his budget last financial year. It should have been very obvious when oil fell to expect a budget deficit blowout.
a) didn't expect iron to fall that much but did expect it to fall
b) Oil wasn't expected to fall
c) They would receive the same level of GST (which was reduced).

I reckon the time to spend is now because interest rates are so low and you can get away with low interest rate treasury bonds.

Hard to know if it's genuine or a stupid prank given it's UWA.
A really dumb prank if one. You can imagine the usual crowd running this one for days and days about how we're the intolerant ones etc.

This.

Sad as it is WA needs a dictator premier and Emperor Barnett does it well.

I'd rather our politicians just got on withit rather than sending everything to referendum to be defeated 51-49.
