Is being drunk really an excuse though? You are still responsible for all your own actions, drunk or not. I've done stupid stuff when drunk I wouldn't do when sober, but end of the day you have to accept its your fault and no one else's.

The information was made available in advance to New Years, so it's not like it was suddenly sprung on people either.

So between them getting warned well in advance and going through 3 different ways to accept the terms, sorry but I don't have much sympathy for them.
So people are OK with this but get up in arms about say Servos upping the petrol price come the weekend?

People still complain about the fuel prices, they just don't do articles about it as much anymore.

Uber is a relatively new thing and has a buzz about it, people want to know more about it so writing about the people who didn't read the terms properly is discussion bait.

I'm okay with the guy having to wear the cost because I do think that uber did everything it could to inform people that it would be far more expensive than at any other time and the person in question accepted those terms. It's not Ubers fault that he was too drunk to push the fare estimate button.

What I do have a problem with for future reference is the formula used to arrive at the final total and it is this that needs to be looked at. If they don't have enough drivers - too bad, people will just have to wait or use another company.

Pretty much this.

The border of Morley is sort of Texas shaped.

It's odd because Tonkin Hwy runs through it and so does Morley Drive.

Since when does logic affect government decisions in WA?

I'm possibly one of the few that supported Barnett's controversial local government amalgamation program.

The option to wait or use another company was already there for those who arent complete idiots, however Uber also offered the option to pay more to ride now. Are you saying they should get rid of the option to pay more to ride now in order to force people not to use their service? That makes no sense.

Re-reading my post it was quite confusing

i think uber needs to display the estimated fare without a prompt being required. Showing the formula only is quite deceptive and tbh misleading. They can charge whatever they like but at least have it very clearly displayed during peak times

Completely different scenarios

There's a finite number of uber/taxi drivers so at peak demand there's a surcharge

The petrol price cycle is arbitrary and designed to take advantage of when people buy fuel

Tbh I think the surcharge was excessive and there is an element of gouging to it but I have no sympathy for the bloke that complains he got ripped off because he didn't pay attention. He wasn't forced to use the service
