I think the ODI at the WACA should be cancelled. Such a waste of taxpayers money that should be spent on bushfire relief.
Well its not the Govt staging it, Freo's new training base though they could scrap the govt cash for that.
Yes, because the government pays for all international cricket matches. Idiot.
Just pisstaking and observing the reaction to the moronic stuff being posted about events needing to be cancelled on other social media because a natural disaster happened.

anyone here a Glory fan?
Used to be, personally am extremely offside with them and have been for some time. The minute Sage and those inept blokes in charge **** off, I'll return.

I am friends with a few diehards, and regularly went to matches last season with them and a group of other diehards.

Most are still Glory through and through but are very pissed off and refuse to go to matches this season because of the current admin.

It's sad how a boys club has ruined what could be potentially a great club. :(

Yeah I picked up on that. God some people dribble shit on Facebook. Terrible thing that's going on but saying "let's cancel the Australia Day fireworks because it's wasting money we could use for the fire!!!!!"

The stadium even got bought up a few times, what the hell does that even have to do with anything?

Every time I've seen their games on the news it looks like Perf Oval is half empty these days.

Yeah it literally is. The capacity is about 20k and they never crack 10k fans. Still I have to say the support from the fans last night especially in the last 20 minutes was really great with the whole crowd getting behind them.

After the whole salary cap debacle I've sorta given up on them.

Why, what's happened?

Nothing has happened I was just asking out of curiosity. I've only started actually watching A-League games the past 2 seasons and I was interested in how many BF Perthites were Glory fans. I expected the responses but still so disappointed to see that a lot of supporters have jumped off because of the admin.

Fair enough. But for your own sake, stop reading the PerthNow comments!

I dont really follow A league purely because the last time I did watch it the quality wasn't that great. Even compared to leagues lower than the EPL. One of my mates told me it has picked up a bit now so I may give it another shot one day.

I used to go to Glory games back in the late 90s when it was the NSL, they got better crowds with better atmosphere back then, The Shed used to go off.

The A League style Glory with the new stadium just seems a bit sterile in comparison.

Glory started going downhill before the A-League came long.

The 98/99 and 99/00 seasons were the peak of the club. The 98/99 finals at the WACA got the interest of the whole state, then the 99/00 finals took it to another level. By the time the final NSL season came around (03/04) the interest had waned. Only 17,500 people attended our last NSL final in Perth, and the 02/03 GF didn't go close to selling out (crowd was 38k, but there were lots of freebies).

I think there were a lot of contributing factors including on field **** ups of 2000 GF, then losing the 2002 GF also and plenty of off field problems like Nick Tana and Paul Afkos infighting, the handling of Bernd Stange, fracturing of supporter groups etc. I think the decline in standard of the NSL and Perth becoming a club that just poached other team's players also put a few people off.

The problem is that since the the launch of the A-League the club hasn't put a foot right. It's sad that a team which used to get 15,000+ to games against clubs like Morwell Falcons now struggles to get 7 or 8k against Melbourne Victory.

I think the peak of the Wildcats popularity was in the late 80s and early to mid 90s. They're flying now off the back of the Arena but I wouldn't say the NBL gets any more press than the A-League. Glory have stunk for over a decade and the Cats just hovered along playing out at Perry Lakes.

The Wildcats were NBA champs in 2000 when Glory cocked up against Wollongong, but they didn't get the same media attention. Glorymania in the lead up to the 2000 GF was ridiculous. For some reason soccer seems to inspire mass hype which fades away like it never existed.

Wildcats were massive in the early 90s, were on TV prime time on Friday nights, even into the regional areas that only had the 1 commercial channel.

They were more popular than the Eagles in the early 90's.

Downfall was when channel 10 got the rights, lost their prime time slot and interest waned. That decision was made on it never rating well in Sydney, they ignored the fact it was going gang busters over here.

I had an U/16 membership that was $4/game. Was a shock to the wallet when it went up to $8 the following year.:D

Adult GA $28. Not that bad I guess. I'd have guessed about $25.

Having to use Ticketmaster would be enough to put most people off anything. $4.65 handling fee for something I just booked on my own computer. Yep, seems fair.
