Ive always been near the area and never heard that either. The mix has changed around a lot in the last decade though with a lot more people from overseas now that a lot of people who moved here with young families when it was a newer area have moved on.

Have been to Victoria maybe 4 times but never spent longer than a couple of weeks there at a time. You might be thinking of someone else.

There is a big difference in culture between mainland Chinese and Malay-Chinese. The pressures and sheer population generally translates into a harder edge.

Garden city suburbs have a higher Malay Chinese or Indi Chinese population.

The former implies a mixed race person, the latter refers to a person of Chinese ethnicity from Malaysia.

I don't know why Perth needs to be compared to Melbourne all the time. Two completely different places and lifestyles.

I love my fishing, camping and the surf. Perth is an ideal location for my lifestyle. I've been visiting Melbourne at least once a year for the last twenty odd years. My best mate lives there. I know Melbourne pretty well and I love the place. I could live there. But every time I get off the plane when I land back in Perth, I feel glad that I live here.

You make your own lifestyle. Not the place you live in.

Edit: I also love good wine, beer and a Sunday afternoon feed with friends and family and I live five minutes from the Swan Valley. What more could I need besides a coffee that doesn't cost me half a weeks wages.
