I would still prefer a real, honest to goodness, inside midfielder with our first pick to a player who has mostly played as a tall forward.

Definitely agree with you there. If he is available with our 2nd pick I'd love to nab him there but.

Watched a couple of games at the champs that WA played and his work rate as a tall forward was very pleasing to see.

I can agree with that strategy.

13 . You seem convinced that Oscar Allen is our man as every chance on BF you have posted or indicated that we are his landing spot.

22. O'Brien is a safe pick I will pay that.

27. I like the bid on Shipley particularly after you passed on Bailey , pity it was matched. Taylor too early for me at 27.

32. Why ????? Garner. For me Houlahan ahead of him by a mile.

37 . Jackson Ross. this is where we should have taken our tall.

I do appreciate all the work that you have put in dajesmac and I know I am being an over critical complaining prick here, but the trouble I have with those picks are that none give us any help in 2018.
More concerning you haven't given us any player that can help at stoppages and is an inside mid.

Rawlings said we will address our midfield and small forwards I am not sure you have really done that.

13 : We have a talented tweener who at this point in time fills a role that Jack and Waterman can cover.
22 : A skillfull low possession count outside midfielder who is a few years away body wise from playing AFL.
27 : Taylor who is a lock down KPD not a high need but a handy "talent bank" pick.
32 : A HBF..... good God...... surely we have enough of them.
37 : Ross who is a super skinny wingman who is three years away from playing AFL.

Haha true, I wouldn't say I'm convinced but on the balance of probabilities I think he is the favourite hence that's who I have to us in my phantom. This is my prediction as opposed to who I would necessarily take.

27. I like the bid on Shipley particularly after you passed on Bailey , pity it was matched. Taylor too early for me at 27.

I suspect GWS won't let Shipley go, and while I really like Bailey I suspect we will favour O'Brien for his kicking skills. Just an educated guess.

I'm not sure it is too early for Taylor - I've seen a few predict him top 20. I think we are a chance to take him although I'd prefer Kelly at this pick.

32. Why ????? Garner. For me Houlahan ahead of him by a mile.

Again, Garner just feels like a West Coast pick to me in terms of his skillset/leadership. He reminds me a fair bit of Duggan.

37 . Jackson Ross. this is where we should have taken our tall.

Maybe. I think we need players of Ross' skillset but if we have taken Taylor already I don't think we'd need another tall. I'd rather take Taylor as our tall than necessarily reach for a Ben Miller or equivalent and I'm not convinced Sam will be there at 37.

Haha, that's alright. It may not provide a short term fix in terms of 2018 but I don't think drafts should be intended to be that way (mind you I could see O'Brien playing in 2018). Like I said, my phantom is more a prediction than what I think we should do but it's a fair observation that we haven't taken a genuine midfielder with the picks I suggested. I guess you could say Zac Bailey instead of O'Brien or Tim Kelly instead of Taylor but I tried to look at players I think the club will like based on their skillsets.

Hi lads. A couple of mates and I did a mock draft, thought I'd share - I had West Coast as one of my teams. No - I didn't take Liam Ryan that early - nor Hayes/Petrucelle. :)

Not gonna lie, you could almost guarantee that Hunter Clarke would end up a spud if Norf took him at 4...

Pick 13: priorities IMO (In order):
Higgins (Highly doubt he will be available)
Hunter Clark
Charlie Constable
Jarrod Brander
Oscar Allen

Reasoning: We need midfield depth now and I see Clark as the best midfielder in this position although he doesn't fit the criteria of the big bodied explosive midfielder we need he is much more composed and agile than the next best midfielder who should be available (Constable) who is a lot bigger, slower but still composed. I would be happy with either of those selections and well Higgins is an absolute dream to get at our pick and will assist in our lack of small forwards and midfield depth as he matures. I have Brander before Allen because we have a pressing need to replace our key forward stocks with Kennedy getting older (30) and Oscar Allen just isn't a key forward as talented as he may be and we already have far too many undersized key forwards on our list. Even if Brander doesn't become a key forward if he can still become a consistent backmen with the mentoring of McGovern and those around him he could possibly free up McGovern so he can push forward (But this is a worst case scenario if we pick Brander).

Pick 22:
Lachie O'brien (Highly unlikely)
Lachlan Fogarty, (If available)
Gryan Miers

Reasoning:
Lachie O'brien would be a handy pick as our outside midfield stocks really are dwindling, realistically we're running on 1 and a half wingman at the moment with gaff and the inconsistency of Jetta although Duggan may be able to push himself onto the wing he is the only debutant who really has the ability to play wing so it would be an absolute dream scenario if O'brien slid to here. Lachlan Fogarty is another unlikely but is still every chance to make it to pick 22 and if we don't obtain Higgins which we more than likely won't, Fogarty although smaller can play forward and is very composed when in the midfield and was second fiddle to Cameron Rayner at the Western Jets and even won BOG over Rayner a couple times showing how effective he is. Gryan Miers is probably the best goal kicking small forward our of the under 18 crop this year, being able to find the sticks with ease including 7 goals in the TAC Cup grand final showing he can perform on the big stage. Although he is lacking defensively but that can always be taught his upside is far too high to overlook especially since he has been run through the midfield and will complement our lack of small forwards as well.

Pick 27:
Tim Kelly
Charlie Ballard
Charlie Spargo

Reasoning:
I see Tim Kelly as the best Midfielder that I have left at this selection so I think he's definitely worth picking up especially because he is an already made player being a mature ager and a runner up in the Sandover medal, will be a fantastic asset if he does make it to this pick. Charlie Ballendean is a 6'5 wingman who is a late bloomer due to a late growth spurt and possesses a fantastic overhead mark composure and foot skills and since we don't have Lamb on our list anymore it would add something we don't have. Charlie Spargo at 175cm and 73 kgs may be small but in comparison to dylan moore 66kgs and Bailey 68kgs is still a much bigger body and probably is still the best prospect our of all of them with his combination of speed, composure and ability to go forward. As before mentioned we don't want smaller midfielders but we will still probably take best available and that is probably what Spargo is if the others don't make it through.

Pick 32:
James Worpel
Zac Bailey
Liam Ryan?

Reasoning:

James Worpel is probably the closest player to our needs but his downsides are what makes him slide down to here. He is an absolute bull at 185cm and 85kgs and the ability to burst through tackles and tackles relentlessly which does still give him plenty of upside when combined with his ability to hit the scoreboard. His downsides are his poor decision making and unreliable kick and we all know how reluctant simmo is to draft an unreliable kick especially made evident by his willingness to usually draft the best kick in the draft. Zac Bailey is small fast but also an unreliable kick making him slightly less desirable at this pick but is a local boy. Liam Ryan really is the unknown at the moment but I feel like he could potentially be a fantastic asset being a mature ager and pure talent being the wafl leading goalkicker, could become anything it just depends on the eagles willingness to take risks on players that may not be fully committed to AFL.

Pick 37:
Ben Miller
Dylan Moore
Joel Garner

Reasoning:

Ben Miller at 196 cm and 98kgs is an absolute unit especially considering he has been playing against Kalgoorlie seniors since he was 15, he is also freakishly athletic coming fourth in the 20m sprint test 2.91seconds (o.o1 seconds behing Bonar) and a draw number one (8.10 seconds) in the agility test. He is also quite versatile having played key forward, ruck and down back with mentoring of Natanui, McGovern and Kennedy who knows what he could become. Dylan Moore I see as the next best midfield/forward as mention as before with composure, good speed and goal sense just lack of size. Than Joel Garner which is a bit of utility but struggled when thrown around before settling in at half back with fantastic composure but is another 183cm half back really what we need?

P.S: I forgot about Houlahan but he would definitely be in the mix with picks 22 or 27 and could add another dynamic to the eagles forward line with his leap and contested marking ability at 185cm makes him a difficult match up and has been likened to Jeremy Howe!
