It's interesting how well the "always the top 5" strategy worked! Didn't get to cash on on debutants or positional changes, but rarely had a poor week.

Yes it’s instructive for me too. I tightened the handicaps on the top 5-6 a little bit this year. I might have to turn the screws a little bit further next year. Not to make them unselectable, just to get the handicaps better balanced between them and the rest.

For instance Naughton, Darcy and West were in the top five all year (although Darcy missed about 7 games). They kicked 147 goals between them. If I’d reduced their handicap by 1 point each for every game they played you’d have scored 147 fewer points. (Or maybe a bit more if you allow for Chumps. I think you got 2-3 of those over the season.)

That would still have you around 12th on the table.

Or maybe not … because your rivals would be affected by the same handicap changes!

That’s still competitive but it’s not an automatic walk up ticket into the top 10.

Something to contemplate over the next 6 months.
