While looking at the net just now i read a pretty disgraceful article from the Collingwood website on this infamous match which McFarlaine penned a couple of years ago.
These are my memories of the day.
I arrived at Vic Park about 1:45 and went into the social club standing area. The swanettes were dancing in front of us, Bob Hawke was sitting behind glass above and a buffoon of a swans supporter was just to my right.
Swans had been getting armchair treament from umpires for the previous couple of years, much like west coast have gotten in recent times. The crowd was probably the angriest i've ever seen at any event. The dislike of everything the swans stood for was very clear.
While the free kick count was fairly close you got the impression we were totally shafted all game. Capper spent the whole match jumping into Danny Seows back and the crucial free kick to Barry Mitchell was patently wrong and should have been a free to Kerrison.
So the crowd gave the umpires a blast on the way off, and i saw no clashes with the swans as they left the field.
After a couple of drinks in the social club we left via the walkway behind the Sherrin Stand. As we walked past, Mr and Mrs Edelsten walked out the door of the swans rooms to a torrent of abuse from about 15 rather feral pies fans, but no one tried to touch them. What stood out to me was how short he is in real life.
Like to hear anyone else who was theres impressions of the day.
