THat's inflation for you. And the fact just getting them out here would've been tough enough.

Anyway there are still plenty of decent bands you can see for under $40.

$80 is my absolute limit these days, and fortunately the tickets were that. When i first started seeing International bands in '74, albums were $5.50 or $5.99 (depending on label). Ticket to Festival Hall was about $6.50 or $6.90, so there is a bit of discrepency there but i figure The Pixies are essential so i've payed the amount.

Can still see some great bands for under $40. Saw The Bellrays @ The Spanish club for $32. Considering i consider them the greatest current live band in the world, an absolute bargain. A mate went to see Eric Clapton, tickets $100 (present from kids), he said best seats were $400! I could see The Bellrays 12 times and still have enough for a few drinks!

I saw the warm up gig tonight at the Northcote Social Club. To say they were impressive is a gross understatement. They did this gig as they haven't played together for months and to dust the cobwebs out. If that's a warm up gig The Palace should be awesome - ENJOY!
Set list was pretty much to "script" with the majority of the set from Surfer Rosa and Doolittle. They did both versions of "Wave of Mutilation" which was really cool, and "Head on" which surprised me as I didn't think they'd be doing that live.

What a show!!

Pretty much 26 straight songs tonight, as they never actually left the stage before the encore, merely took a bow and said thanks, then got on with it.

Setlist as follows:
In Heaven
Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)
Bone Machine
Monkey Gone to Heaven
U Mass
Head On
Caribou
Subbacultcha
No. 13 Baby
Tame
Hey
Gouge Away
Mr Grieves
Holiday Song
Here Comes Your Man
Wave of Mutilation
Planet of Sound
Debaser
Crackity Jones
Something Against You
Isla De Encata
Nimrods Son
Vamos
Where is My Mind
---
La La Love You
Gigantic

Quick Summation, because I'm deaf and a fair bit tipsy. Vamos is brilliant live...as is Gigantic!! They are not overly talkative. The first thing Frank said was "Hey"...and...well that was the start of a song :D. Kim Mentioned the show last night at the Northcote Social Club, and called it a rehearsal, yet it is listed as a date on the tour t-shirt. Only downside was the lack of Velouria and Dig for Fire, but after playing for around 1 1/2 hours non stop, I can't complain really.

That's exactly what they did at the Northcote Social Club and in that order (I'm pretty sure). Great stuff!

Awesome gig. In my Top 5 gig's of all time.

I've never heard a band "sound" that good @ The Palace.

Kim's bass playing was awesome. Loved the way Dave's kit was raised, so you could actually see his drumming, his timing is impeccable. Charles has trimmed down a lot!

3 Personal highlights were: Gouge Away, just love Joey's guitarwork on this.

Bone Machine.

U-Mass.

Thought they could have left off Head On, and included Into The White or Brick Is Red, but not complaining.

Great way to finish with Gigantic.

Let's face it Charles had a lot to trim down:D
I can forgive them doing "Head On" as they do a kick arse version (not that I don't like Jesus and Mary Chain's original version)
Agreed "Gigantic" was a superb closer.
Like yourself would be in my top 5 gigs (somewhere in there with Birdman, The Buzzcocks, Iggy Pop and Nick Cave).
