Yeah, **** language, let's just call everything the same thing.

Usually you're absolutely spot on with your attitude towards Dylan, but in this case you're wrong.

Language evolves and is different from suburb to suburb let alone state to state let alone country to country.

It says vest on the tag; it's a vest.

I agree and that was my point, it was Dylan who didn't like my use of another word.

Language has evolved, it's created a number of words for various sleeveless items.
Waistcoat
Tank top
Guernsey
Gillet
Etc.

Why use the same word for all these different items?

Call it a vest if you like, I don't care. I call it a body warmer.

Well no, you told Dylan that a vest was something different.

Vest is a general term for a sleeveless top.

In Australia, where we have very little need for lots of different outer layers, the general term is commonly used and understood. If you'd said gillet i'd have understood because i'm familiar with that term, but this is the first time i've heard the term body warmer.

And body warmer is such a strange generic term, isn't it? If you'd said body warmer and asked me to guess what it was, i'd have assumed some sort of blanket.

Didnt mean to start anything. I've never heard it called a body warmer before so i was genuinely interested to see if we had a new type of merch clothing item I didn't know about. Anyway,I'll be getting me one of those vests because the jackets usually too hot.
