Subtle? These were consecutive years, how you can say these changes are more subtle than the number panel is beyond me.

I said 'mostly' and also said they're generally reflective of the fashion of the day. These two kits were very consistent with the trends of the era in which they were released...soccer shirts have far more appeal as a general clothing item than an afl guernsey so its important that they stay up to date with fashion trends.

If the panel made the BIB more fashionable and hence more marketable then sure its like euro soccer clubs changing every other year but that is not the rationale behind the panel. We released an article outlining the history of a number panel ffs!

And then take these two which again show some significant differences

To the outsider there's no knowing what team that is without our logo on it. I don't mind the small logo on the chest - they way it sits now, the teal in the logo is perfectly placed over the teal chevron etc & actually looks pretty tidy. From a branding perspective, if you're going to have AFL, Renault, EA, logos on our jumper, we should at least have our logo on it too. It's the current design of the EA logo that cuts our chevron that looks offensive & cluttered to me. Renault redesign looks great.
What does look good is all the AFL/PI stamp bullshit you've removed from the jumper hem :thumbsu:.
I like what you have done with the socks on the away kit. Currently the socks we wear have no relation what so ever to any of the design elements or devices on our kits :thumbsu::thumbsu:.
Take or leave the black panel on the away strip.
I've come to like the black neck & armhole trim on the magpies jumper - sits well with BIB in this modern era. I'd keep that, & not have the white on the socks either.
Either way, we've got a pretty damn easy on the eye footy kit these days.

Have you read the bullshit press releases that come with every new soccer shirt. The spin makes your eyes water,

Unless you're Adelaide, Brisbane, Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Fremantle, Gold Coast, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Richmond, Sydney, West Coast, Western Bulldogs

......
That's exactly where most teams exclusively hide their logos... It's preferable. Port Geelong and St Kilda are the only teams that have it unnecessarily twice on their guernseys. Port is the only team where it impedes the overall design (eg covering the chevron).

I 100% agree that the current logo shouldn't be on the jumper...

...however

...if we had the Black Diamond

Any logo with 1870 as the main - or in this case, only - feature reeks of desperation, like we are desperate for the AFL world to remember we aren't 'Port Power Est. 1997'. I don't like it.

I don't have any problem with 1870 being an element on the design, but not the key element.

With all the China business going on it's probably not the best time to make a change anyway (and I support an eventual change).

The current logo has already been seen at business functions, games broadcasted through CCTV and all the promotional activities for the China game. It would be confusing and counterproductive to make a change now.

As far as Shanghai is concerned the Silver Fist is coming to town.

If the white back panel is a move to slowly, bit by bit, bring in the prison bars (wharf pylons, whatever you choose to call it) as our permanent AFL guernsey then I'm ok with it. Slowly sneak up on everyone then BANG!!!

The move to introduce the white number panel as a 'Showdown guernsey' was weird. I thought at the time that it may have just been testing the waters to make this move later on. And so it has happened that way. The next step is obviously the hardest and obviously at the very least we have to wait until Eddie McGuire is gone from Collingwood to even begin thinking about it. But I think it's on the club's long term agenda for sure.

It starts by re-introducing a design element we already had on our home jumper for the majority of our AFL existence?

Probably not.

I might be in the minority here, but I think we should do more with just the fist + bolt. We've started to hand out the fist + bolt gloves at the games which are cool, but I wouldn't mind seeing like a cap with just this instead of the actual POWER logo.

It might be a bit too minimalist to be our actual logo on the guernsey, but I wouldn't mind that either.

I only heard about the sh*t fight with Chokito from I Don't Care earlier in the week, and after reading through 20 odd pages of this thread it appears to me that any **** up with availability of merchandise is as much to do with poor management by the Port Store staff, as it is with any supporter.

I have never been a big believer in a group ganging up on an individual anyway, regardless of who is right or wrong, so I prefer the eating your own BS is left to the CAMPAIGNERS down the road.

On the contrary, I think you actually need to make a guernsey logo as minimalist as possible because it occupies such a small space. Otherwise they're simply not legible. Detailed logos only work on a larger scale when you can actually see the detail, but on a small scale they look like a smushed mess of nothing.

I made this one a while back with this function in mind. A simple lightning bolt with the number 1 inside it (captain wears #1, we exist to win premierships rah rah).

It's simple so that even on a small scale you can see what it is.

Like it, not overly simplistic but still pretty basic.

Reminds me of the M in Metallica, and for that reason I fully support your suggestion.

Rabbitohs is the best example

Definitely one of the best.

A couple of other great examples that spring to mind are Liverpool using the bird logo on their shirt (instead of the entire crest) and Roma bringing back the "Lupetto" logo this year.
