Anyone remember the old "Magpies Expect To Win?", watching the last two seasons I reckon some of our boys have taken that to heart far too much. They go out there 'expecting' to win. They're not gonna break a sweat making it happen, but hey, the expectation is sure there.

When everyone gets their 2017 guernseys just black out the "and make our community proud" bit and send a picture to the club.

#hocusfocus
So you don't want to make your community proud then?

#17 with a bullet! Had the tape with the club song on Side B. Pumped that shit after every GF win.

But now we need an uptempo, hi-nrg, big beat and boomin' bass remix for the kids.

The Power expects to win...

The Magpies expect to win?
The Power expect to win?

Just re-jig to

Port Adelaide Expect to win.

It's just redundant. We'll be proud if they win a premiership. It doesn't matter how warm and fuzzy your off field stuff is if you aren't successful in your primary business of winning.

We absolutely should not under any circumstances be watering down our stated reason for existence.

Doesn't every club exist to win premierships? It's almost like saying "we exist to play football".

Sure in theory, but it's about focus.

Take Richmond for example. Last season they (unbelievably) admitted that they built their list to "make finals" rather than win a premiership because they didn't think their supporters would cop a proper rebuild.

Did they exist to win premierships? Nope. They existed to keep their fans happy and their membership counter ticking over in the short term.

They focused on the wrong things and now they're paying for it with nothing to show.

I love these little flare ups on this board.
Yep, I don't care if they're wearing the teal/white ice cream man monstrosity kit as long as we're winning and back playing finals.

Ok maybe I care a little as I hated that jumper but the number panel is not as bad as the melts it's creating, win wearing it & it'll look much better.

I am pretty sure the most enjoyable Port premierships have come when the community as a whole have thoroughly despised the club.

1990 and 1994 were so much this.

Its clearly a new message being pushed by the club, ollie was on 5aa and wheb asked about last season said obviously it wasnt good, as a club " we exist to win premierships and make our community proud".

Got kochies name all over it!

If you need someone to define who the Port Marketeers think is part of `our' or `the' community, thats not something I can do.

It's pretty obvious, "our community" is port supporters, "the community" is the wider community.

It is super lame for sure and a continued theme of the dilution of strong PAFC elements. We exist to win premierships, and...

The guernsey isn't as bold as it was even with Reebok's shitty gray/brown in the first iteration of the BiB. I love that we have an extensive footy jumper history because I'm such a nerd in that space but there's something to be said about keeping it as simple as possible to maintain and develop an identity.

Previously we might have had one (non-AFL mandated) once-off jumper a season beside the BiB and the inverse white clash. 2013 we had the prison bar send off. 2014 we had the 2004 throwback and the prison bars in the EF - sure, two once-offs, but everything was right about wearing that Magpies jumper.

I'm pretty sure with all the minor variations and pre-seasons included, Charlie Dixon played in six different guernseys in his first seven games. Pre-season, 1997, Showdown, China, Home, Home, Clash. Pretty absurd.

Many here take great pride in supporting a club that involves itself in many community programs, runs an Aboriginal academy and provides great support through the Foodbank initiative.

The club prints part of this mission statement inside the guernsey, and that's bad why? This has nothing to do with Kochie making the club more "vanilla." It's about being proud about doing things the way the club has always done them. Premierships are the goal on field and being a productive part of the community is important off the field.

I honestly can't believe the way some people are reacting to this.

People are `mad' about it because `and' puts the two goals on an equal footing.

It reads more as an `out' for not winning premierships than anything else.

Beat me to it.

Ah well didn't win the premiership but at least we made our community proud.

Tick!

They're as important as eachother. One is an onfield goal, the other is off-field.
