I don't understand the love of the New Era hats. I've never seen anyone wearing one that it actually suited them.

Says the guy who wears swish swish pants, worn out joggers and underground band shirts.

Something simple like this would be nice.

El_Scorcho actually wears an entirely denim outfit, shoes included.

Let me guess, too gangsta/seppo?

I can cop individuals not liking the style.....for themselves. But this person is clearly in the minority. These hats are probably the biggest single seller the club has ever had or will ever have.
Again though, going by Facebook you'd think this style of hat was the biggest mistake the club shop has ever made.

The Facebook outrage was ****ing ludicrous.

Here is a piece of merch that is flying off the shelves and yet a moral wowserism sprung up simultaneously decrying it as "too American" [wut], "too gangsta" [um] and seemingly denying the existence of the 15 other cap designs that had been rotting on the shelves for however long.

I still remember calling out the woman who declared it "a big mistake" as it "isn't something my father would wear". I mean what the ****? Since when did the validity of stocking merchandise of any type boil down to a litmus test of "MY 60 YEAR OLD DAD WOULD HATE IT, THEREFORE NO FOR EVERYONE"?

All those flags in the 80's and 90's really attracted some freaks.

They're incredibly misguided then.

Look at the super popular merchandise items we've had over the past few years.

The white on black New Era caps. Simple, timeless, understated, no teal.
The Reebok "PAFC" jumper. Simple, timeless, understated, no teal.
Both the 2014 EF and the 2013 R23 Prison bar guernseys. Timeless, classic, no teal.
The varsity jacket. Simple, timeless, understated, no teal.

Hell, the current home guernsey. We went from unusual and complicated to simple, timeless, classic and reduced teal to a tertiary colour.

Meanwhile, how many of these do you see around?

The die hard supporters are the ones that go into the store and buy merchandise. The facebook crowd does not. The facebook crowd appears to have a very warped perspective on how we should market ourselves and what the average supporter wants.

Simple, understated, timeless, teal used as a tertiary colour. That's what people will buy, that's what sells like hotcakes, those are the items that have whipped Port Adelaide supporters into a frenzy.

Good post and I agree completely I didnt say it was a smart idea to market to Facebook, they just want teal and things with a massive PAFC pumping fist all over it.
Last year they did release a couple of nice wear around in public shirts, the Superman T and The Star Wars one.

However the jackets aren't great apart from the Varsity one I missed out on.

They need to start having more low key port gear such as jeans, shorts, board shorts, singlets

This is it in a nutshell (facebook its full of freaks and nutcases)

Facebook isn't the problem. Universal literacy is.

So many people who should be serfs tending fields, their moronity limited to the petty milieu of their own acre.

Quoted again for truth.

The Facebook crowd are typically older (mums and dads who have pried themselves away from Farmville) who don't put the kinda discretionary income into the club that the 25-36yo does. Plus (with all due respect) them wearing our gear out and about does nothing for our brand and attracting the 5-15yos compared to seeing a bunch of Gen Ys with PA New Era hats.

We've got near on the best colours in the league for merchandise- black, white and a touch of teal or silver if it looks ok. It really shouldn't be that hard.

I know the club's social media guys monitor these threads; surely they could do worse than meet with a couple reps on this board (focal point El_Scorcho ) to sort something out (or at least explain to us the difficulties with producing this kind of gear (i.e. not owning "PA" or needing the AFL logo on things)).
Because there's pretty clearly some low lying fruit going begging here.

i hope the club sells millions, but i think they look a little silly and that flat brimmed style will date.
