Good work Leppa!

UNDER-FIRE Brisbane Lions coach Justin Leppitsch has lashed out at continued media criticism of the club and his players.

A newspaper column on Saturday took square aim at Tom Rockliff, describing him as overweight and a regular on Brisbane's social scene who sets a bad example as Lions skipper.

It comes on the back of another difficult week for the Lions who were forced to deny fresh reports of player unrest.

Speculation about Rockliff's future continues to circulate, despite the captain being under contract until the end of 2017.

Leppitsch said he could deal with being a target himself, but he wouldn't stand by and let his players be unfairly criticised.

"Some of the crap that's written about our players, basically lies written in the press annoy me, about our boys," he told reporters on Saturday morning.

"Some of our young boys don't deserve it, like Squiz (Lewis Taylor) and our captain as well, copping it for no reason – it's all rubbish.

"That kills me, but I can cop it, so bring it on. I'm big and strong enough to handle it and to be honest I don't really rate the opinions of those that are speaking, so that's the way it goes."

Reports have linked Rockliff to a possible move to Adelaide when he becomes a free agent at the end of next season.

But his manager has denied the move, and Leppitsch maintained there are no underlying tensions at the Lions.

"There's reasons why you lose, but one thing people can't understand is that we have a young group that makes errors which is why we lose, and it adds up to losing," he said.

"Some people want it to be some mysterious reason – someone hates somebody. It's garbage."

The Lions host Greater Western Sydney at the Gabba on Sunday and are odds-on to book what would be a club record 12th consecutive defeat.

Leppitsch said the rise of the Giants was proof what the Lions were trying to do wasn't unprecedented.

"People don't remember they've had a two-win season, a one-win season, a six, 11 and now what they're doing this year," he said.

"Our list management and planning is mirroring what they're doing as a club."

Nice work leppa. Loved the "i dont rate the opinions of those who are speaking". Now for rocky to come out with a similar tone would be good. The boys are united. We need to understand that. Without us they will end up being nothing. If we cant stand behind a club that we love then who are we to complain about captain coach or players.

Ive already got my members money tucked away for November. Maybe a slight upgrade from gen admish aswell.

Bring it on *ers.

I'd absolutely love a win this weekend not just for the 4 points but to put an emphatic full stop after all the positives out of the club this week.

Come on boys. Give the media and critics a big middle finger salute. And even if you don't win, show them how united you are as a team by getting around each other.

I for one will be there cheerring myself hoarse.

No we don't need it. We have a young developing team. Did GWS need more wins in the years they had a two win and a one win season. No they didn't NEED it.

What our team needs is continual development, support, and encouragement.

Great response from Leppa. While I was driving home today I listened to Gerard Whateley and others justify the negativity coming from the media and criticise Leppa's commentary and selectively target parts of what he said. Infuriating self important rubbish.

I for one buy into the proper rebuild approach - Short term, and probably mid-term, pain for long term gain.

Sorry. 'We' as in fans need it. The only thing that will hurt the boys development and confidence is anout 15-20 goal loss.

But Justin, we don't and never will have a tenth of the talent GWS has, so not sure how you'd expent anyone to fall for that rubbish argument or what exactly we're supposedly mirroring.

Thing is we wont. But we will end up with a fare few first round draft picks on our list. Schache hipwood from last year. Mayes aswell. We will have pick 1 or 2 this season and we may worm our way up. No we wont have the exact number of high end talent but we can still end up around 10 round 1 draft picks all 5 years apart.

It's the weekend. People are playing football so media are talking about football. Monday is a new start in the news cycle. I predict North Melbourne will be under the pump from the media and we can all go back to our internal navel gazing without the influence of the media starting s**t for us all to worry about.
