Spending a leisurely day watching the replay of the Lions v Aspley NEAFL game.

Matty Eagles has been highly impressive so far, a real surprise for me. Clunking contested marks up forward, hard at it, good in the ruck and doesn't look like a panicer with the ball. Could be the first contestant of The Rookie to do anything remotely passable at AFL level. Looks more intense and desperate than Stef.

Well, it's bye round for us and that's a positive for me and Nick.
My oldest son Justin and I are meeting Nick in Melbourne Wednesday and then driving to my home town of Donald.
Catching up with my old man and mum and watching a game of country footy.
Donald v St Arnaud at St Arnaud.
Looking forward to that.

Have absolutely loved Nick Robertson's game this season. Hope he banks himself a good next contract and is able to see it out.
Agreed, and when he does can we invite Leemas back for 24 hours to rub his nose in it?[emoji3]

Eric is actually a better mail than Jeremy was at the same age, though the height difference would play a part in that.

I had to look Donald up on google, had never heard of it, looks like terrific country side. I love a great road trip, have done many. Have a good weekend, Nick certainly deserves a break, he has worked his backside off for 10 games, setting a great example of improvement and intensity. We fans are still waiting for the contract extension news though.:)

Couldn't agree more - his form of late has been very good. Last season, he always seemed to get tackled when he tried to take on the tackler, whereas this season, he seems to have an arrogance about him - which I like. Even on the weekend, he stood up many times and he generally made good decisions. Certainly the extended games played has helped him feel like an AFL player.

Hopefully not looking for houses down there:cool:

Zorko is sitting 7th overall in AFL player ranking points. He's ahead of Buddy, Selwood and D.Martin.

What a champ. :thumbsu:

He's been top 10 most of last season as well.

Also of note. Martin is 5th for ruckman and Andrews is 5th for key defenders.

I have started to track these stats a bit as I think while any ranking system have flaws generally the AFL ratings have a pretty good correlation to the top players in the league (eg. ahead of Zorko are Danger, Pendles, Sloane, Josh Kennedy (Swans), Robbie Gray and the Bont).

The thing that worries me about these ratings is our 'improvement' isn't as fast as you'd hope given the level of inexperience in our team. The rankings are effectively an average from the players best 40 games over the last 2 seasons. Given their age and relative inexperience and the way the system works we should have guys moving up much more consistently than we do IMO.

Anyway - I'll keep tracking and try and check rises over the season and report back in here on positive notes!

Also for a depressing stat. they tweet the teams total rating before each match. Brisbane's best team for the season is ranked lower than the worst team of all other teams in the league this season. On the flip side the weekend was our 'lowest ranked' side for the year and we were competitive for 3 quarters. (refer below)

Interesting that even with all of their injuries at the moment Gws are still right up there.

related but different I think that also shows the quality of this ratings system.

The top 8 teams in terms of ratings are GWS, WC, Adelaide, Geelong, Dogs, Port and Sydney and Hawks. next tier is Melbourne ,St Kilda, Richmond, Collingwood. Then Essendon, Freo, Gold Coast, Carlton, North and finally us. very good correlatoin to ladder positions aside fro mHawks and Swans which is largely because its a 2 year rating system you are still getting hawks and swans of 2015 influencing the rankings.

as I said in another thread about a month ago and in my post above. I'm really starting to watch this ranking system to track improvement of our list. Hopefully by seasons end the like of Keays, Berry, Mcluggage, Mathieson, Mayes, Taylor, Cutler, Robertson, Barrett, Paparone, McStay start to push up towards a weekly rating of 10 per game up from 5-8 at the moment. Once that starts to happen we'll be competitive.

As a comparison Jack Crisp, Levi Greenwood, Jamie Elliott average roughly 10. (and Zorko is about 15 as 7th best in the comp)

Don't want to start a drinking debate again. I did want to offer a positive though. I commented a few times last year and early this year that there was almost always booze on the table or drinks in hand with players (in season too). I liked seeing that BBQ the other night at bastinacs with about 8 of them and the was no booze to be seen, on a bye round.

Booze is not the end of the world, but if you truley.. truely want to uphold elite standards, and you truely want to get better at an elite level, then boozing cannot be a part of your routine in season.

Not sure if its player driven or club sanctioned, but there has been no booze present in any of their holiday pics - bar robbo having one with his Dad and grandad which I would NEVER say was inappropriate :)

Maybe they've already finished their drinks before the photo? ;)

Only a small sample size obviously but still good to see. With Fagan and Noble declaring when they arrived that they would create the right culture, it wouldn't surprise me if there is a general alcohol ban in season - player driven too.
