I think our board is pretty positive. We can have some healthy debate over certain subjects, yet respect the veiws that others share regardless of our own opinions. Pretty great to be associated with bigfooty brisbane lions

Edit: I am sure it's just as good on all the other boards, but brisbane is always better

Witherden rising star nomination, three for the year with Berry hopefully to come, future looking good
There was a moment in the game during the third quarter I think just near the interchange when Berry went in for the ball and turned his body into a very big contest against an opposing Richmond player. He got up, had a look on his face like ph*** and then went to the next contest. Right then I knew we've got a real good one there.

such a gun, I was actually so sceptical about him when we drafted him, as we have drafted these good athletes before who have not really turned out to be good footballers, I was more hopeful for SPP, but honestly he has been fantastic if he was from a football state his impact would definitely have been talked up a bit more

Do you still think we need (or deserve) one? There's a fair bit of talent on the list now.

think we do deserve one, judging by how uncompetitive we have been, how we have been shafted by go home 5, aish, crisp (2 all Australian contenders, 2 legitimate best 22 players, 2 handy depth players), Justin Clarke retirement. while we have had players show talent and got rising star nominations lets not forget some of the other players who have had these nominations and never really kicked on including Justin Sherman, Corrie, Cam Wood, Matthew Moody, Bradd Dalziell, Banfield, Claye Beams, Mitchell Golby showing there are 0 certainties in sport.

Furthermore we had 0 last year and only 1 in Harris Andrews the year before....judging by this our list is actually so bare and we need more and more talent.

We have still only won 3 game for the year.
And if the Afl are prepared to give us one then why not? We still lack in areas that need addressing. And we are a long way behind the rest of the comp.

We should end up with 4 or 5 and it won't fast track our development having another top 20 pick.

I don't think we will and I'd be happy for teams in our position not to receive one.

It should've been after our first pick last year though.

We still have less top 10 players than every other team don't we? And our seniors are getting elderly -ish.

My concern is that we could improve over the next 2-3 years but if we lose the seniors to injury we will then stagnate. Would feel more comfortable if we could walk away with 2 top 10 this year and unfortunately port have let us down on that one.

We had about 13 from the last 4 drafts on the weekend. We already have 3 high draft picks. We will have a lot of talent coming through in this age group.

One guy that I tip my lid to this year is Stefan Martin.

There has been a bit of talk on here that Stefan hasn't been that great this year and may be dispensable this year etc., which I think is pretty disrespectful given what he has had to shoulder in recent years.

A bit like the criticism of Daniel Rich earlier in the year, I reckon a lot of us take for granted guys like Stefan and the role he plays week in, week out without much fanfare or credit by a lot of supporters. Whilst his 2017 hasn't been to the same level as his 2015, for the most part, he has shouldered the ruck load alone except for 6 games when Archie has played and has been reliable and rarely beaten.

I appreciate that Stefan may only have a couple of years left, but IMO, it is no reason why we should be looking to someone else yet and/or moving him on.

Completely disagree on Stef and Richy D12, but that is what big footy is all about, opinions.

Rich clearly polarises people, but what is your knock of Stefan? Do you not rate him or is it a case that you think Smith cando the role or do you think we need to bring in an experienced ruck this off season?

Stef IMO is grossly over rated and is living off the back of 18 months of great footy a few years ago. He offers zero up forward and squibs contests regularly. I do not rate hit out stats at all, hit outs to advantage yes. He looks lost with the ball in hand, I hold my breath when someone passes it to him.

IMO Josh Walker would offer more around the ground as ruck. I would also like to see Matty Eagles given a couple of games in the ruck before the end of the season (I know unlikely), he really attacks the contest all over the field. I have no doubt we could handle the ruck with Archie, the big O, Walker and Eagles (if kept) next year + the best state league ruckman we could find if needed. We will also have Connor Ballenden coming in next year.

Agree totally with Stef Martin. His work rate is fantastic & never gives anything less than 100% effort. His game against Richmond was really really good and think his game assessment suffered because our midfielders lacked impact. Unfairly criticised often. On the other hand, I really don't think Rich's effort has been anywhere near acceptable. His body language is also replicating his performance as he shows no emotion or disappointment when his clangers hurt us often each game. Think Rich is still a good player and show's glimpses of his past but not nearly consistent enough for his experience or expectations.
